Munnar

This should be a very short travelogue and its about my trip last week to Munnar. The pictures of Munnar will always be a pleasure to watch. It was a 48 hour trip from 1st to 3rd of September. In that 48 hours, I dont recollect any moment on which rain had stopped. Yes, it rained non-stop while we were there and we decided to cut-short the planned 3 day trip to just 2 days. Because of the rains, nothing went as planned and we may have just seen quarter of what Munnar offers to fellow visitors. Overcast conditions, no crisp photos as well.

The road conditions have been well described by chevy lover in his thread for Munnar. I took the same route, Trichy-> Theni-> Munnar.

First set of pictures were taken on the way to Munnar. This includes Anairankal dam and Thoovanam waterfalls.

On the Mattupetty direction

We stayed in a homestay called "The westend" (close to the State Bank of Travancore). Its a low budget homestay and I was charged Rs.600 per room. The place was safe, but its a very low budget stay option where one has to compromise on so many luxury factors. The good thing like many other hotels is, its right on the heart of Munnar town and you have every hotel that is in a walkable distance.

The next set of pictures were taken on the Mattupetty direction the next day. This includes pictures taken in Kundala Lake, Echo point, Mattupetty dam, on the way to Top Station and further.

Thanks Kiran!

Lalu, thanks for spending time over the phone. You know what, just after I spoke to you, I decided to abort the plan of going to Ponmudi dam and Vagamon as heavy rains were forecasted for the next 48 hours. I easily picked up cold and cough in those days.

Yes, its Periyakanal waterfalls and not Thoovanam, its my error.

On the Cochin direction

On the last day, we decided to try the Cochin direction and definitely had to leave Munnar before 2PM to be able to make it to Trichy before 9PM. This last set contains photos taken driving towards Pothamedu view point, Attakkadu waterfalls and the return journey. It requires skilled driving on the road towards Attakkadu waterfalls as the road is really narrow and it will take lot of effort if you need to pave way for other vehicles. Also, its best to park your car just before the bridge on the waterfalls. Incase you do not find parking space and need to cross over the bridge, please remember that road elevation is little higher on the either side. There are chances that cars with low ground clearance may brush the underneath against the road. There is a tea shop close to the waterfalls. On the back of this tea shop, you gain spectacular view of the falls.

The return journey was very smooth and uneventful. With this, I will end this log.

Re: Munnar

Any snaps with water bodies in a panorama adds to the charm ten folds.
Very nice snaps indeed. One we saw from CL and now from you. This keeps getting better!

I went here in december 07, and a lot of infra and civil work was being carried out then.

but very serene, and the scenics were to die for.
stop by th eoradside, and wander through the tea(i think) plantations.
Nice!
