Nice pictures there of the Tigress and that of Jeeps. She is so calm and as you have written majestic. I went there in 2006 and got a chance to see this lovely animal. Its great experience to see it in wild in all its grace and beauty. Keep posting..

Thanks DeKay. Tiger is a graceful animal and very beautiful too. IMHO - even though people say that Lion is the king of the jungle - my vote is with Tiger.
Also when it comes to pictures - Lions dont even come close to Tigers!

As far as sighitng is concerned, one needs to keep trying - as GD sir says - your seeing the Tiger is entirely on his wish. If he wants to show himself, he will. But be sure - you are being watched always when you visit his home

The stalk, crouch & the charge of the Tigress before commencing a hunt. AWESOME..!

p.s if only the shutter speed would have been higher in the last two bottom pictures and the colors toned down a bit.

Well - i was shooting with a P&S and did not have enough time (knowledge) to do a shutter priority thing.

This was one of the things that prompted me to upgrade to SLR and to start looking into how to take good pictures

After the charge, where she came croppers, the tigress walked in front of our vehicles and sat down in the middle of the track it was an excellent setting for a good photo op.

This is a very strange coincidence. I was also in Ranthambore at that time. And T-17 was the first tigress I saw. Will put up a snap later. Diwali time.

re: Ranthambhore National Park - Tigers and More!

Sri,

You have brought Ranthambore to us.

Beautiful sightings and captures. You did so much with a P&S camera, its unbelievable.

Now since you have experienced first hand the limitations of a P&S, its timeyou upgrade to a DSLR with a decent zoom before commencing on another photoshoot.

My favorites, the Tiger and Jeeps in one thread...a double whammy.

Looking forward to more.
Regards,

re: Ranthambhore National Park - Tigers and More!

After a long time, went to Ranthambhore again during the weekend. Initially had planned to goto Sariska, but on account of previous visits done frequently and also because of disturbance due to waterhole work going on in Sariska - decided to goto Ranthambhore.

This time - it will be a solo trip - as missus wanted to goto her sister's place. Dropped wife and kid to her sister's and returned back.

Filled up the tank, got air pressure checked and was ready for the trip. Had planned to start by 5.30 on Saturday morning so as to beat the morning jam when leaving Gurgaon, but it was not to be - i got late by an hr, and by the time i had crossed toll - it was already 7 am.

Got stuck in a big Jam with traffic moving at snail's pace after the toll. Infact, faced more than usual traffic all through.

I was staying at Jhomar Baori - a RTDC "heritage" hotel built in a castle. This is inside the buffer zone of the national park and one can spot animals in the property as well.
I saw some Nilgai's when going up to the castle. It was a very nice location and situated on top of a hill - but as usual, the rooms were not upto the mark.

Got in, had lunch and then waited for my safari vehicle to come. Was surfing channels on TV and came across a show about Jaguars on NatGeo Wild or some such channel.

It was showing how a Jaguar was killed by some poacher for its canines. Not a good beginning of the stay. Anyways gypsy came - we got in and came to know that Zone 4 was allocated. It is supposedly a zone with good tiger movement and some 4 odd tigers were moving in that zone. So all hopeful and charged up - we start the safari.

Now to the pics -
