Gurgaon - Jaipur: Republic Day Celebration

It was the first long w/e of the year - Republic day on Thursday and taking 1 day off on Friday makes it a 4 day weekend. Itching to head out on a trip. Prime objective is to work with my new Canon 7D that i purchased over the New Year.

Where to go is a big question - For the first time in a couple of years - decided to plan a trip to visit a city instead of any jungles. As i did not have a adequate lens for the camera.

Jaipur - the capital of Rajasthan and home to incredible palaces and architecture bekons.

The trip is planned - start on 26th early morning and return back on 28th.

But - there is a twist in the tale - how can we go on a trip without prefunctary visit to a jungle - so Sariska is included in the plans. If reports are favourable and weather permits - 28th will be Sariska day

P.S:- When we informed my son about this trip, his first response - "jaipur mein kaunsa jungle hai?"

Itinerary -

Thanks to Dhiraj for his help in firming up the itinerary.
Staying at Arya Niwas hotel - very nice hotel from the reviews and recommended by Dhiraj.

This is also the first time when i will be trying to capture the beauty of palaces, architecture through my lens - hopefully will come back with good results.

Re: Gurgaon - Jaipur: Republic Day Trip. Day 1 - Amer Fort

26th morning

The plan is to leave early so that we are at Amer by 9.30 or so. It is a chilly morning - but thankfully no fog!

Leaving the bed - all warm and cozy is a pain in winters, and one would have to commend the ladies on their sense of duty. Wife was up at 4.30 working on preparing for the trip (we dont like to stop in between, so preparing brkfast is necessary). Thanks to my "better" half - delicious sandwiches and allo de paraanthe are being worked on.

Got up at around 5.00 and got ready for the trip. All set by 6.15 am and head out by 6.30.

It is still dark and getting lighter - by the time we hit the highway it is light.

Thankfully - did not encouter any traffic jams on NH8 (which seem to have become the order of the day on NH8). And are past Dharuheda without any holdups.

Make steady time and are at Amer by 10 am.

At Amer - hired a local taxi and a guide - it is a Jeep and my son is super excited, he loves Jeeps and is sitting in one for the first time.

Taxi is a rip-off charging 230 bucks for the short trip up to the fort - but i guess worth it - it allows you to concentrate on your primary objective -- that of being a tourist, rather than struggling with your vehicle and parking and stuff.

It is so much to see and digest - one wonders the infinite resolve and determination of our ancestors for building such magnificent buildings without the advantage of much technology! commendable.

My first view of Amer Fort, and Jaigarh fort in a distance

See the elephants with Red colored cloth on their backs going up the palace, this is the place where in Joda Akbar - Akbar's baraat scene was shot.
These elephant rides cost you 900 bucks one way.
