A road trip at the KA-MH border (Kohlapur - Gokak)

Hi Team,

During one of my summer holidays after interning at IISc Bangalore, I had been to my aunt's place at Dharwad. We all planned to goto Kohlapur mahalaxmi temple first, but on the return journey, we happen to visit the Gokak falls too.

This trip log, is about our visit to these places.

Route:-

Simple enough to self navigate from dharwad to Kolhapur via Belgaum. Most of it is a Highway, tolls like every 60 kms.. but worth the money. Hats off to the National Highway Authority of India

Roads are amazing, just loved cruising at 120-130 kmph mark.

We travelled in my uncle's Tata Indica. This is close to my heart because this was my first road trip and that too with family.

Will complete the whole TL and upload it ASAP.

Re: A road trip at the KA-MH border (Kohlapur - Gokak)

Well, here is the rest of it..

We started off early morning from the Powergrid station in mammigatti post of Dharwad. My uncle was driving then, and we hit the highway as soon as we were out of the gate, tanked up our car and started moving as we had planned to return by evening.

We had break fast in a restaurant along the high-way, I dont exactly remember the name of it, as this trip was done last year. After this, we stopped by this scenic location en-route.

After a brief halt, we proceeded to the temple. I liked the temple structure and the maharashtrian style of architecture. The whole darshan process finished up in like 2-3 hours.

The entrance to the temple and the shikhara:-

This piece of architecture was spoilt by some not so knowledgable people with writing all over it with chalk and other aids. :(

Well, from here, we move on to the next location as we finished the darshan by 12:30 pm. We had plenty of time. Aunt suggested to head to gokak falls, and there we go to this beautiful place. And the hanging bridge just invites you. It was drizzling lightly when we went there. And the water falls was in full flow.

This was a short one day trip with the family with main intention to visit the Kohlapur mahalaxmi temple for prayer. We enjoyed it fully, and on the way back I was given the chance to drive as my uncle was getting tired and had to go for the night shift work. Overall a satisfying drive, and a satisfying trip to refresh and remember. If any body moves on this road any time in future, I would definitely recommend you to goto this place and enjoy the nature to the fullest.

Thanks and Regards

Gokak Falls Travel Query

I am planning a weekend trip to Gokak falls (from Pune).

Google maps shows the following route. Please comment on road condition or alternatives.

http://goo.gl/maps/UkLgF

Also, between Kolhapur and Gokak which are good food joints? (Preferably in Gokak itself, since we'll be starting early morning from Pune. Around lunch time we'd be at Gokak itself.)

Are there any other nearby spots around Gokak which can be covered during visit to Gokak?

PS: Google Maps shows a spot with title "Gokak Falls Small Ferry". Sound interesting. Is there a ferry near the falls?

Thanks a lot for the tip about Godchinamalaki.

Thanks for reminding of Kardantu! Just remembering it is mouth watering. I had bought it from Belgaum once (from a shop along NH4) and that was just too good. Does Gokak have its own variant of this? Are any specific shops famous for that?
