Re: My Birding experiences around Chennai

Another weekend and yet another week full of surprises. This time it was Siruthavur on Saturday and Pulicat on Sunday. I always wished i could get the harriers and raptors and this trip cant be more satisfying.

Lucky to Spot 4 raptors (Red Neck Falcon, Kestrel , White Eye buzzard and Montagu harrier) in Siruthavur and Eurasian Marsh Harrier in Pulicat.

Here is the pics.

Re: My Birding experiences around Chennai

Great pictures Aravind, i was lucky to spot a white throated kingfisher right behind my house. I was wondering what bird it was as it was beautiful. I am sure that will be the first and last time I would see such birds behind my house as Building sharks have razed all the beautiful trees(there were 4 mango trees, 2 neem trees, Gulmohar tree, Almond tree and a couple of others) A few trees were needlessly cut and when I asked the builder he told it blocks the elevation. It pains to see when humans don't give a damn for nature. Even God cannot save us and i am sure this summer Tamilnadu is going to face accute water shortage. I would love to join you on your next visit. Look forward to more pictures

Stunning pictures and amazing skills Aravind, thanks for sharing these wonderful clicks.

In one of the earlier posts you have mentioned, "hope I am not flooding this thread", instead I would say, you should start "flocking" this thread with more and more bird clicks.

Thanks again for sharing these beautiful birds.

Cant' agree more this buddy. It is actually true how we are losing these birds in our local vicinity. I was surprised the other day to find a Shikra near my house. I dont spot anything other than crows these days. White Throated Kingfishers are so common and they can adopt well to the local conditions.

Sure, will keep you posted and you are welcome to join me anytime. Let me know a day before so that i can plan well.

Thank you mjothi. You would have been lucky to work in such a lovely place. I frequent SHAR road as well to spot these lovely creatures.

Never knew there is so much of option in Chennai.
It would of great help if you can list out the spots for birding in Chennai

I am planning to buy the Sigma 150-500 mm/f 6.3 which is adequate as ther are no plans of shooting in low light.

Re: My Birding experiences around Chennai

Aravind,

I plan to go to Pulicat this Saturday. I have 2 questions for you -

1. Is 1st week of October a good time to visit.
2. What is a good location to spot birds and please provide the contact details to hire a boat to take us around.

Thanks,

Ashwin
