Re: Driving down Kodaikanal - The Adukkam Route

Dear Ddrive

Reminded me of my drive to Kodai in 2011 along with my family (wifey and kid of 6 years age). A detour from Periyakulam-Adukkam route and after a trekking of almost 5 km through forest braving leeches and small streams will lead us to Thalaiyar water falls. A very good place to relax without the disturbance of usual crowd. Posting some photographs!

Ddrive, I would have lost my nerve and backed out on seeing that road. Infact if you would not have got the pic along with car I guess many including me would not have believed that it was possible to drive through.

Ddrive, thanks for sharing and trying this route.

I guess now we have 4 official "driveable" routes to Kodai top
Palani Ghat/Law's Ghat/Adukkam route/Pannaikadu route

Which is your favorite so far?

Dear Gokrish, thanks for the message and the pictures. I would like to go here someday. Btw you went this road from Periakulam side or you drove down from Kodai side?

Ofcourse the Lawsghat route... remember going this route numerous times since my boyhood days when i lived in my home town Madurai. We feel that cheer whenever we start climbing over that first curve, and say "Thank God, I'm here again!". Nostalgic too

We went down from kodai side. In fact had to encounter an elephant herd on our way which was camping in that area for a long time. Good experience watching the herd being handled by locals. You should engage a local guy to do trekking part as it is both risky and misleading.

The same way I love Salem- Yercaud than Kupanoor-Yercaud. And for the sake of nostalgia as well... Now you know who I am.

Re: Driving down Kodaikanal - The Adukkam Route

I was at Kumbakkarai falls this past Monday and guess what? The 45 kilometre Adukkam-Kodaikanal ghat road is being readied as a proper bypass road (I assume as a 2 or a 4 lane road). Work is going on as of December 2019 and it is expected to be open for traffic in 1 or 2 years (i.e., by end of 2020 or 2021).
