Re: Timeless Travel: A Journey of 8,400 Nautical Miles across the 7 Seas!

A corruption of Robert Frost's immortal words
"The Oceans are lovely, dark and deep
But I have promises to keep
And miles to go before I sleep"

Just one word, AWESOME!!!

Can you shed some light on your choice of 'wheels' for this epic voyage?

Re: Timeless Travel: A Journey of 8,400 Nautical Miles across the 7 Seas!

Woah!

Truly coincidental, I just finished watching this movie called "Captain Phillips" and I was trying to comprehend the life of men at sea. And when I log on to TBHP, I see this. Opened it immediately and saw the pictures and my mouth went

The pictures really do speak for themselves and it'd be wrong to say that I don't envy you

I got a question though. Why aren't cargo ships allowed to have their own security or armed crew to tackle piratey situations off the coast of Somalia? Why do they need Naval ships to escort them?

Absolutely no words. Thanks very much for sharing these really privileged pictures. Amazing experience going through them. I can only wonder how it had been to be there in person! Thanks for sharing once again.

Dear Sumit,
Spectacular photos. This is a different type of travelogue and thanks for taking us on a virtual different world tour!
Must have been a long tour, and curious to know about "sea sickness", how did you manage on this front?

Left speechless after going through the TL.

Spectacular snaps and equally good writing to go with it.

Rating a well deserved 5 Stars for this thread!!

sumit,
takes me down memory lane (just 6 months back) when we sailed for 90 odd days in the barents sea. though i don't have such lovely snaps to boast of. the port of murmansk itself is awe-inspiring as are the polar nights.the waters are as enticing in summer as they are harsh in winter.well, hope to catch up with you soon. btw, the second and fourth snap gave you away (even before i saw your pic with the helo deck in the background)
guess who?

for the info of all those who are interested, the ship in pic with the caption red on white, is a russian atomic icebreaker. this fleet is part of the 'rusatomflot' fleet of nuclear ice breakers on duty in the upper arctic. incidentally, the first of this class (identical ship) - LENIN - was the first ever nuclear vessel (surface or submerged) at sea and is preserved at murmansk as a tribute to the soviet accomplishment.
