Hi.
Awesome photographs. I've been trawling the net for info about Tadoba.
Would you be kind enough to put me in touch with Mr. Atul? Am planning a trip in end march.
Thanks.

Re: Waghoba at Tadoba

Great to see the largest tiger in just 5 minutes into the safari. Last April, I got to see a tigress on the fourth safari in Tadoba. In the first to 3rd safaris, there were tigers nearby, but out of sight. Encountering a tigress just about five feet away from the Gypsy was an incredible experience. Stayed in MTDC and the leopard cubs in the cage were very small then.

Yeah buddy...it was quite lucky to encounter the tiger in the first safari as we went without a sighting during the next 3 safaris. I didn't know the leopards are there since they were small, someone there told us they had turned man-eaters and hence captured and kept there.

Re: Waghoba at Tadoba

Looks like you are as lucky as we are. We visited Tadoba, one week before you and had a sighting of the Tigress Maya within 10 minutes of entering the park in the first safari. She was with us for almost half an hour and while returning to gates, tigress Sonam was with us for 5 minutes. We were really thrilled. We also spotted a wild bear in the evening safari.

You were luckier than us Fiesta1.6 . Other than Wagdoh, we didn't manage any other tiger sightings though we saw crocodiles, various birds and animals and also a few caged leopards!

Re: Waghoba at Tadoba

Mandangadh...so I was on the lookout for an offbeat destination within Maharashtra and came across this Fort/ Hill-station called Mandangadh around 225 kms from Mumbai near Dapoli.

The exact route is Mumbai- Panvel- Pen - Vadkhal Naka- Mangaon- Veer- Tol Phata - Mahapral- Mandangadh.

The place has a perennial 50 feet waterfall and a shallow pond where its possible to raft and swim...lovely place for a couple of days Let the pics do the talking.

Re: Waghoba at Tadoba

Superb pics and TL, @nix1976in. Incidentally I was also there on Dec 19th and 20th, but in a resort near Kollara gate. We had 4 safaris in all, but the first day was a huge disappointment: we could only spot tiger cubs playing near a waterhole, far away from our Gypsy.

We were contemplating driving back on 20th after the first safari, but day 2 gave us a good sighting of Sitara tigress, that walked across out convoy for a good 20 minutes. Owing to the excitement, we decided not the cancel the afternoon safari. And lo behold, we had tigress Maya walking on the road right in front of our Gypsy (we were the first in the convoy). It then walked towards our vehicle and passed 4 feet away from me, which was a bit scary! But the guide said nothing to worry as long as you don't disturb her. She walked beside the 20-car convoy and gave every vehicle a good sight for photos.

We again were waiting for it near the water hole where we'd spotted her cubs, and she did not disappoint us. She entered the water right next to our Gypsy and gave good poses by splashing water.

I'll post a separate TL with pictures, soon after I recover from my temporary illness.

Re: Waghoba at Tadoba

Appending another birding trip to this travelogue...

So recently we came to know that my in-laws 'kuldaivat' or ancestral deity is Twarita Devi located at a little known village called Gevrai near Beed in Maharashtra so off we went...pretty uneventful drive. The route taken was Mumbai- Talegaon exit (Mumbai -Pune expway) - Chakan - Shikrapur - Ahmednagar (cross city) - Pathardi - Gavrai - Talwada ( Twarita Devi Temple).

Start of the trip...0.0 on the ODO.
Waghoba at Tadoba-20160227_003304.jpg

The ride after leaving the expressway was entirely on 2 laned country roads but no major bad roads as such just a few potholes thrown in for good measure.

Somewhere in Marathwada...

After a quick darshan we moved back towards Ahmednagar to check in for the night. It was around lunchtime and we noticed some boards mentioning 'Kanduri Mutton' which was touted as the local specialty. The food was lovely to say the least and we hogged to our hearts content.

The "Kanduri' Mutton Hotel highly recommended.

Checked into Farhat Executive Hotel just off the highway and settled in to watch India beat Pakistan in the Asia Cup. Had a warm veggie meal and crashed for the night.

In the am...I had a sudden inspiration and looked up Bhigwan bird sanctuary which was around 120kms from the hotel..so after a hearty breakfast off we went..

The route was Ahmednagar - Mirajgaon - Rashin - Bhigwan - Kumbhargaon Bird Sanctuary. The roads were lovely all through with minimal traffic just a few sugarcrane haulers 'tis being sugarcane season.

Play with the winter Sun...
