Scotland - Driving through mountains, lakes and the sea

Hi! I plan to drive from London to Edinburgh in first week Feb. Could anyone guide with care hire options and tips for the trip. Hope it will safe to driving during the winters. Also any idea on what route would be the best.

Have you driven on snow and ice before? Because I'm guessing you might have to.

I'm guessing because, yes, I am a Brit, but pretty much a Southerner. You might even get freezing weather down south, but more likely up north.
