Sure please go ahead, why the need to ask for any permission. It would be my pleasure to see pics of your trip over here. It must have been fun to ride solo on a bike to Raigad fort. Wish I could do that some day .

Re: Kille Raigad: A tribute to the Capital Fort of the Maratha Kingdom

Just in case it helps anybody, thought of putting up route to go to Raigad from Mumbai, in case anybody is following any maps. The maps do not show the proper route.

Firstly, DO NOT TAKE NH66/NH17 upto Mangaon, it is in shambles and horrible to extreme extents at quite a few places, although road work is in progress at quite a few places in this stretch.

From Mumbai, the route to take should be:
Mumbai
- Pune EWay upto Khalapur Toll
- Exit to Khopoli
- SH 92 - Imagica
- Pali
- DO NOT RELY ON MAPS HERE, they show straight road ahead
- Take Left towards Vile MIDC Here - SH 93
- Vile MIDC Central Road Junction
- Straight goes to Pune via Tamhini Ghat
- Take Right to Nizampur - SH 97
- Arrive at Mangaon Junction
- NH66 / NH17 to Mahad-Raigad Road Entry point

I had taken the NH17 to experiment after quite a few years for onward journey to see how it is now and it was totally wrong decision even to experiment. Return even at 10 PM via above route was a breeze, although route goes through villages, jun and is narrow at quite a few places.

From Pali to Mangaon route would be this:

I have tried the above route and is definitely better if you want to avoid traffic snarls on the main highway.

There is one more alternative. After Nizampur instead of going towards Mangaon, take left in Nizampur and the road directly goes to Pachad. Haven't tried it myself, but a biker friend did it and the road is decent enough with some rough patches. People in exploratory mood can try out .

Since I came from Tamhini ghat, Kolad MIDC, Nizampur, I took this route only (going via Pachad) instead of going to Mangaon or Mahad. This is one awesome route, going through the jungles, thick forests, lots of twisties, ghats. Anyone who loves driving will cherish this road. It is narrow in width at some sections, such that only one vehicle can pass at a time. If any 4 wheeler comes from the opposite side, you literally have to come to a dead stop, but there are hardly any vehicles coming, so you can enjoy.

Excellent. I will definitely try this when I plan Raigad in April. Bored of doing the same route every year on my Raigad visits .
