Routes less travelled in Kerala: Pathanamthitta to Kumily via Gavi in a KSRTC Bus

Nice travelogue about this less travelled route. Reminds me of our visit to Gavi and a jeep safari through this route two years ago.

Good you sighted so many elephants. We are able to spot Elephants, Gaurs, Malabar Squirrels and Grey horns, but the rarest we had to cherish about is the sighting of this Pathanamthitta bus coming out of nowhere suddenly in the middle of the jungle.

Its me with my family while taking a leisure walk on that route

Has anybody travelled from thekkady to gavi recently ?? Can you provide some info like how's the road condition and whether we can take own car.
Also is there any option to do in gavi for approx 2-3 hours and return the same day without opting for any forest dept day tour packages.
