Great Bike Ride Account

Hai Couger,

I read the entire account @ your site and saw most of the snaps. Great to see them and read the accounts, made me think of what we used to do with our bikers gang way back in 80's. The prelude tolled my memory.

I did something like this in 1986. 2 of us from Cochin airfreighted my Yezdi Road King (that was one great bike) to Mumbai and drove it back through Goa, Mangalore to Cochin. All friends laughed at us; but we were short of time and had only a window of 8 days. I convinced my pillion, Bakar, who was in Indian Airlines (that was the monopoly airline at that time, we could do almost anything) with his contacts we could airfreight the bike almost free. The roads were none too great at that time and even truckkers used to go in conveys from Ponda to Karwar for fear of decoits, NH 17 was just happening !!!! We followed the truckers, the forest was real scary before Karwar.

The best part was the drive from Mumbai to Goa. Stopover for 3 days, Goa to Mangalore - stop over, Mangalore to Trichur - stopover and Trichur to Cochin. I can't imagine doing it now. I am happy you could take the decision to do it while it could happen.

Happy Driving,

--Ramky

Cougar nice trip man! It takes guts to do trips like these especially when you don't have a support 4 wheeler following you.
