Re: Alaskan Holiday | Chasing the Northern Lights in the Final Frontier

Great planning, excellent trip report, beautiful pictures and a nice car. I'm surprised how flight connections with a layover of 45 minutes is even allowed. My view is 60-75 minutes is fair. By the way, the GMC Denali line up of trucks derives its name from this place, right?

Hi Vigsom,

I'm not sure about the regulation. I was tracking the flights and the layovers. The flight that would become our ATL to SLC was coming from Germany, which had a track record of being delayed. That made me jittery, as;

1. SLC is in the middle of nowhere with very limited flight options.

2. There is only one flight from SLC to ANC. If we missed our original flight, it would mean, a delay by one full day.

Yep. GMC has a Denali and a Yukon too.

Rated a full 5 stars. Great TL @nikhilarni. Stunning pictures

I just could not time the Aurora sighting during my grad school days in Minneapolis. You have officially whetted my appetite.

Thanks Landcruiser,

Got goosebumps seeing the Aurora for the first time. It's a surreal experience. I'd strongly recommend making that trip. There are parks up north of MN where you can catch them.

Day 4: On the Drive to Arctic Circle Sign

This was more of an experimental video. Watching at all those automotive programs as a kid and the car chase sequences, I have always wanted to capture my video of a drive with the camera placed just behind the front wheels.

Did a trial run on my BMW back home to check the suction cup GoPro mounting and ideal positions earlier.

This is on the Dalton Highway.

Watch around the 2 min mark, there is a bridge crossing, and see the travel the suspensions have. I am super thrilled and amazed at the image stabilization of the GoPro.

More videos of the trip in following posts. I am still working on my video editing skills and my mac doesn't make it easy either.
