Potholed in places but that’s about it. Lots of truck and random two wheeler traffic.

Correct. There is a Ramco cement factory on the way. The trucks from there ensure that the road stays that way I guess.

But in the whole it’s not a bad drive. The fields all along the way add to the charm.

Re: A hidden gem - Gandikota (Andhra Pradesh)

Did you try climbing down the gorge to the river at Gandikota? There is a trail to climb down - safe, but need to be cautious to avoid slipping. You can rent life jackets there and get into water and enjoy the cold water swim / float for some time. The gorge itself looks gorgeous from down there as well.

I wasn’t aware of this. So didn’t try.
Strangely enough didn’t see anyone else doing the same.

Re: A hidden gem - Gandikota (Andhra Pradesh)

Will be very hectic. It’s 5-6 hour drive one way.

Day trip is not doable as one way journey from Bengaluru itself takes about 6+ hours (as per Google Maps). The Kadiri route is in a bad state, so that stretch will take up the time.

Re: A hidden gem - Gandikota (Andhra Pradesh)

Gandikota is no more a hidden gem. I had been there way back in 2016 and there were hardly anything available including drinking water(except for Harita resort). Now Gandikota is fully commercialized and weekends are packed. For those who haven't visited at all, it's worth it.

The circuit(Bangalore/Chennai/Hyderabad-Gandikota-Belum) needs at least 2 full days to see properly.

Refreshing Travelogue though from the numerous Western Ghats blogs.

Re: A hidden gem - Gandikota (Andhra Pradesh)

Gandikota is a place usually off the radar; simply because apart from this place, there are very few places around which one can visit. Hence one can't club this place with anything else (Belum and Yaganti at best)

But all said and done one does need to visit this place to witness this grand spectacle. Even Belum is a marvel in itself and not very popular amogst people even though its govt maintained property.

A great log and a great way to spend a weekend!

Interesting to see new places not that far from Bengaluru.
Today I saw this article in BBC online. Has some good views in the video. Looks like staying in those tents would be great

Re: A hidden gem - Gandikota (Andhra Pradesh)

Took inspiration from this thread and rode to Gandikota from Chennai. The last stretch to Gandikota was such a pleasurable ride. Was there during a weekday and was not crowded. In fact in the morning to see the sunrise, only I was there. Not well developed still with limited food options and all. But I must say a place to see once if you like these kind of offbeat places.

My amateurish attempt to capture the details of the ride below it it helps anybody planning a trip there.
