Goa Getaway with Family

It was back in Dec 2023 when we started planning our annual vacation for 2024 and without a second thought we zeroed down on Goa. Me and wife had been to Goa a couple of times earlier but it is the kid's choice now.

Taking advantage of a long weekend & a day's leave could manage the big time together. So it was from 26th till 29th Jan.

We bought our Kigger for my wife's daily office commute in April 2023 and a proper long drive was pending for her.
I had taken her to Indore in November but that was a very quick visit (returned in a day). So nothing much to say about it.

Some observations about the car.
Likes
- It's a looker. Great design & will definitely age well. The DRLs look very handsome
Goa Getaway with Family-looker.jpg

Space- More than Enough space for a family of 4. The boot is big enough for that weekend luggage.
Modes - Eco mode is pathetic. can't prefer it, even on highways. City mode is good and will give you enough crunch to drive through the city at a lower speed and on the highway to overtake that long truck.
Sport Mode - This is the mode where you will get to know the real power of this engine and gearbox. Put the car in sports mode on the highway and touch the A padel, you will immediately feel pushing yourself into the seats. If you really want to enjoy sport mode on this car, s/w off the music system, put it in sport mode and just hear that engine noise, It is awesome for this category of car.
Music system - the sound output is good with a subwoofer. The touch screen feels nice and responsive.
Brake Noise - A well-known problem for Kiger. Even after 7K km, it's still there
Headlights - are not that great. especially on a cross traffic.
Rubber band effect - the infamous CVT characteristic. Very well controlled though, but it is still there sometimes.

Does Anyone have any idea what this button is for "Shift Lock"??

Coming back to the vacation.

Excited about a long journey (for a vacation) since COVID and that too in a new car.

Getting the car ready.

A day prior, went through a regular check like tyre pressure, washer fluid, fuel, etc., and packing of luggage.

Day1
Let the pic say more now...

Getting trips ready.
Goa Getaway with Family-20240126_095236.jpg

Started a little late about 11.00 AM due to my wife's compulsory participation in Republic Day flag hosting.

Setting up AA. Don't miss my AC vent mounting phone holder. It keeps the phone cool from the harsh sunlight.

I am occasionally getting this error even if I have the key in the car itself.

Route
Pune-Satara-Kolhapur-Nippani-Amboli Ghat-Goa
Goa Getaway with Family-pune-goa-map.jpg

The road till Satara was good, but as usual we were not the only ones on the road for the long weekend so observed more than usual traffic on the road
especially at a toll booth.

The road after Satara is under construction and you need to take a diversion every 1-2 km which is very irritating. The moment you get the speed you will see the arrow for diversion

Found this place for lunch 8/A just before Kolhapur.

The food is getting ready on the conventional chullas made of soil.

Some attractions for the kids
Goa Getaway with Family-20240126_145724.jpg

It took almost 5 and a half hours to reach Kolhapur. Did not stop anywhere after lunch since it was already late; showing the ETA around 10.30.

Amboli Ghat was a good patch single road but driving through it at night is a pain especially due to the idiot high-beam driver. They literally make you blind.

The resort booked was in South Goa near Agonda Beach. Reached the destination at around 11.00. Everyone was exhausted, did the check-in formality, grabbed the keys, and Good Night...

Wife woke me up early in the morning to have a walk on the beach. The monsters are ready to mess up the room.

CONTINUE...
Day3

Planned to go for a Kayaking. For those who want to know more about Kayaking - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kayaking

It is located on a Cola beach 7-8 Km away from Agonda.

One of the horrible roads with huge stones on the way, but Kiger managed not to scrap the underbody. (Below pic does not give a fair idea)
Goa Getaway with Family-cola-road1.jpg

Kayaking - the water is just 5 ft but the kayaking boat needs to be balanced to avoid being toppled down. We paid 800 for 2 boats (2+2) for 50 min.

Day4

Return journey. Done the checkout and final bid to the staff for their excellent service.

Look! How dusty she becomes...
Goa Getaway with Family-dusti-car.jpg

One thing I would like to mention here; Goa roads are one of the best roads I have driven on in recent time. The bridge between the North and South Goa is beautiful, especially at night. Forgot the name of the bridge. Manohar Bridge I guess.
Goa Getaway with Family-goa-roads.jpg
Goa Getaway with Family-goa-roads1.jpg
Goa Getaway with Family-goa-roads3.jpg

I wanted to take the same route to Pune via Amboli Ghat but Google has its own brain and suggested me to take the Goa - Bombay highway and then a right turn at about 200km to Anuskara Ghat. so the new route is
Goa-Anuskara Ghat-Karad-Satara-Pune.

Could not manage to click the photos in Ghat. The Ghat is beautiful to drive but not so good to be driven if you suffer from motion sickness.

After the ghat just before merging into the Mumbai-Bangalore highway, we found this awesome place for MISAL pav "Misalkar".
Goa Getaway with Family-misalkar.jpg
Goa Getaway with Family-misal1.jpg
Goa Getaway with Family-misal3.jpg

It's already 4.30. So now non-stop to Pune. The road was in good shape for most of the time. Reached home around 10.00.

Total travel report

Total distance covered - 1072.2 Km
Average speed - 43.4 Km/H
Mileage - 15.3 Km/L as per MID

Shift Lock -

This is to shift the automatic modes when the battery is dead. When the battery is dead and if the car is in P mode then we can't change the mode to N or D for the car to tow. So we can use this Shift Lock and move the mode to N or D for the tow. Hope this helps.

Key not detected.
Regarding this error, I assume you are keeping the key in the same pocket along with your smart phone. Due to the signals from smart phone sometimes the key is not detected by sensors. This happened for me and I realized this. Hope its the same case for you.

Thanks, Krish_Diesel.
Information on Shift lock will come in handy if in need.

Regarding the key not detected error, I am getting this error even when the key is out of pocket. I usually don't sit in a car with things in my pocket such as my mobile, wallet, or key. I need to check how close I am keeping my phone and key in the car.

Great thread there Satish. Yes, the ECO mode is useless on the highway while overtaking. But there is a trick to extract maximum FE from that ECO mode on highways. I prefer shifting to ECO mode on Expressways along with the Cruise Control where I know I'm in the center lane with 80 to 90kmph locked with cruising speeds (Yes, I prefer going within the limits as easy as it gets). With this shift, I'm able to extract around 20-24kmpl from the CVT Turbo with the AC on. However, its useless on other highways where you need to overtake and is mostly a two lane road.

I had a Ciaz Hybrid Manual before the Kiger and I can't explain how comfortable and effortless this CVT is, we were fresh and ready to do outdoor activities after a 7/8hr drive from Pune to Goa (Via Anuskura).

Here is my Orange bug from one of the recent drive to Konkan. Goa Getaway with Family-20231225_181307.jpg

Thanks, Eshan,
Eco with Cruise control is a good hack. I will try it soon and will update on Kiger thread.
The problem with me is whenever I am using CC I am always having that anxiety to apply the break even at the smallest curve. So my right foot is always in the air on the pedal. I think I need to learn this new technique if we can extract 20-24 kmpl

Absolutely, the CVT is beautiful. I have driven my Beat manual to Goa a couple of times, I can tell the difference what CVT makes.

By the way, that orange color looks fabulous.

For that you have '+' '-' and 'Resume(RES)' buttons on the steering wheel which aids for minuscule reductions and accelerations instead of the pedals. It even memorizes the last CC speed that has been set, so that post the overtake hit the RES button and wham you are on the last (Eg-90kmph) speed in no time (yes, even in ECO Mode it traverses quickly.

Thank you for the Mustard Orange color - it was the only available option for BS6 at the year end 2022.

Yes, I do use the RES+/- buttons for the increase or decrease the speed, but I still feel a little nervous and drive very cautiously. Since it is my first car with cruise control, I guess I need to practice more.

Indeed, I had a great time. If you want to have a relaxed holiday, South Goa is a good option than North. Silent water and less crowded beaches. The hotel guy was telling me that Agonda beach was mostly being visited by foregieners. It was only after covid that many Indian are visiting this place.

Thanks.

Hey Krish_Diesel,

I figured this out. I was keeping my phone and key together at a place just below the AC controls. I kept them apart and now there is no issue.

Thanks for your suggestion.

Thanks for sharing your Goa journey from Pune.

I would like to ask which route will you suggest for traveling to Goa - Via Amboli Ghat (one for onward journey) or the one suggested by Google on return?
