Hyderabad Photoblog 2008 | A Year that was

Now that I have left Hyderabad, here are the snapshots.

They are an expression of what I saw of the city in a year.

Urban Success

Hyderabad is a unique example of what happens when an isolated city in central India emerges due to sheer economic activity but at the same time heavily depends on Logistics and Natural Resource supply. And now the people influx we can see.

How Hyderabad has grown and will grow – we have to credit the vast un-inhabitated geographies that surround the city. Vast areas scarce of people and vegetation.

With a heritage going back centuries and the lost pride of being a independently governed state, it has already skipped the time warp that city like Kolkata is drowsing in.

Economic Achievement it was then and continuing.

Futureabad?

Hyderabad may bot be the gateway to South India but surely a launchpad alternative. What will continue to plague it will be the traffic situation. The ring roads and expressways will not unclog the City Core.

More roads = More Trips = More congestion. Its the existing resilience of the people here which be be raised to levels of sustenance.

People are on the road not for sheer fun... they mean business. If u have to do business, you gotta travel. If u got a population influx. ... logistics follow.

The traffic of Piaggios and 407s and Trucks we curse are rushing to deliver our own foodstuff, apparels, equipments, water, construction material only.

I don't want to make a pessimistic statement but any kind of retrofitting will never be able to streamline a city.

Hi Tech?

Day 1 in my new office last year:

" Sanjeev (Peon), come here. Get a digital print of this jpeg file. Oh, I have to burn u a CD isnt it? else how will u be able to take it to the photoshop".

Voila! Sanjeev fishes out a pen drive from his pocket. Thats how hitec it is I felt. Later on I discovered, Sanjeev has a email ID, surfs Orkut and comes in a bike.

Talk about economic boom?

Imagine Villagers from Shamshabad barefoot and wearing dirty tattered sherwanis coming with their new Scorpios and Innovas to fit 25K DVD Players in their vehicles. And farmers in Rajamundry travelling in Honda Citys with their feet up the seats.

Romance?

I have mixed opinions about Hyderabad.

I hate the city as much as I enjoyed being there (rather originated my travel from there)

Some things were nightmarish. Sometimes it felt dead.

Very few pretty girls to catch the eye. Even if there are romancing couples around you you feel love is blooming. Hyderabad seemed unromantic to me.

Once Once Once... took my wife to Husain Sagar and parked. Within minutes cops came and said..hey that girl beside u?. give us her dad's phone number.

I said "she is my wife". and showed them my marriage certificate.

Ok. married so romance at home. I said we dont have TV so came here.

Now they said make us happy by paying something. I said I will feed u but not pay. Choco bar for the cops? Naa.. Mango Bar? Ok dont be shy... Mango Season = Mango Bar...

They said u are messing with AP Police.. I said I have faced MH, WB, DEL, GUJ police... so what the big deal... they let me go.

During the conversation they were smartly continuing collecting hafta from other unfortunates.

In this busy world, we ought to use our quality time judicouosly.
And Hyderabad deserves it. I promised this blog during my Kolkata Photoblog.

Picture snapping is a strategic, time consuming and patient exercise.

Now the whole world will see Hyderabad the way it has never been portrayed. Sure its a tribute.

The only thing that was hospitable was u TBHP Clan.

I carry my business suit, camera, file of important papers photocopy, ready to eat food (nitro-sealed), toll receipts, 3 credit cards, toolkit, 8 bottles water and laptop with me all the time in the car.

Thats how life is

Very, Very nice pictures.
The photographs with the text written is nice. You seem to enjoy travelling ( I hate to travel a lot ).

The amount of traffic is huge and has increased from I last visited Hydrebad. I last visited Hydrebad was 9 years ago. Went to my cousin maternal grand parent's home in Banjara hills. Traffic was less and the cops were better at Hussain sagar.

I appreciate the images and your note on them.

Super Pics and explanation, Basu. And the conversation with the police as something which I enjoyed. Will catch up with you in our meets. It appears that you have travelled most of the parts in India. Now that you are in Bangy, I tell you it will be same as Hyd or you may be experiencing it by now already. Thanks for sharing with photos, buddy.
