Currently, the Kharagpur-Bankura-Panagarh road is in bad shape, avoidable. Best is to take Kon Expressway (NH6) till Dankuni/Howrah and then Durgapur Expressway (NH2) to Panagarh

I had travelled from Durgapur to Kharagpur while coming back from Gangtok in 2007.From Durgapur to Bankura road is drivable but after Bankura to Bishnupur is pretty bad we had to take a diversion as the highway was bad and came through lot of villages and single road.From Bishnupur to Kharagpur lot of railway crossings and heavy truck traffic and the road is average so can maintain 60km/hr.I think it is worthwhile going through Kolkatta as suggestedby hv kumar sir.
