Few pointers

A question that I missed was on how to travel. Basic thing is that you have to reach Delhi first.

From the North its not a problem, chandigarh has lots of Public transport options, from the south you have 2 options :
  • Fly to Delhi
  • Take the Rajdhani if you have enough time
Once in Delhi again you have 2 options :
  • Take a flight: Kingfisher, Air India or MDLR
  • Take a Bus
For the Bus, take only HP Tourism/Roadways bus from ISBT, unless you want to do a Delhi darshan late in the evening, you wouldnt want to make a booking with a private operator. Options are available in Volvo, Deluxe with govt run coaches.

Avoid Volvo during winters because they run the blower in heater mode and it can get really suffocating inside.

Avoid Air travel during monsoon and peak winter as the flight schedule is really unpredictable due to unsuitable landing conditions in Kullu (Bhuntar) airport and it can really screw up your travel plans, specifically if you have connecting flights to catch when travelling back.

I think if bus is the preffered mode, then volvo only it has to be in winters. Yes blower in the heater mode may be a bit suffocating, but its far far better than having ur bones chillled to the insides(especially if travelling at night - do not travel in a non volvo bus at night in winters)
