Thank you Ashish for introducing another wonderful place to visit in Maharashtra! How about the accommodation in Shivthargal? Also what would the distance be like from Mumbai?
Thank you again.

regarding dist,
it is @30 km from mahad. so calculate from mumbai.

shivtharghal is very remote place. it is so small place that forget about any hotels, there are not any shops either.
there are two basic eateries.
if anyone want to halt at that place, there is bhaktnivas[ accommodation for pilgrims] at temple premises. look at the pic showing entrance gate written sunder math. you will find the building at left.
otherwise, you can halt at mahad if really necessary.
mostly, from mumbai, it is one day trip.
if you want it two day trip, you can club it with fort raigad visit.

That was simply awesome Ashish. I just HAD to read the entire blog in one go.

With my family, though, I have never done anything like that; and all my trips have to be well planned to take care of the li'l one. I think I should try that way now; of course with friends .

I agree.but on the spot tours / unplanned (and without the family) usually are great thrillers as you go where you have not planned and most of the times do exciting things. There is also a risky edge to it but then thats what makes it a lot of fun

This was very nice "events as they were unfolding" travelogue went through it last week, while attempting to become a member Nice Photos also.

While I have been numerous times to Raigad fort & Mahad city, this place was skipped everytime due to number of reasons. Now I am surely regretting it.

Surely will visit next time when I reach Mahad. Anyhow you know the road condition from Birwadi to Shivthaghal?

birwadi to shivtharghal, @15km is nice road.
though it is wide enough for two vehicles, lot of twists make more fun.
i had travelled by this route 2-3 times latest being two years back.
don't know current condition but it may be good as looked good near shivtharghal.
