@Meghan - you make me miss it all .. thanks for those pics.
Yes, though I later realised that I missed the 17-mile drive near Monterey which is also supposed to be famous.

Dips are allowed though they won't be as enticing as the water is really cold most of the time unless you go down south till LA.
I just loved the lighthouse and I think it also has been used in the movie 'The Ring'

Re: California Highway 1

I never knew this thread existed.

Once Spring started, I've been traveling through Highway 1 every weekend.

Here are some pictures from my side -

Great thread, and fabulous pictures. Thanks for reviving this. California Highway 1 has to be one of the dream drives for every BHPian. Some of the views remind me of my own drive from Inverness to the Isle of Skye in Scotland. (described here http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/travel...cotland-2.html).

Unfortunately, stuck to the East coast on my family trip to the US last year, but certainly hope to do this some day (preferably in a good car).

Re: California Highway 1

One of the best roads on Earth. I just love this route. Your timing was perfect as you had a clear day so the views are truly fantastic. I wasn't lucky when i went there. It was cloudy but it was still breath taking.

The curvy roads are a dream to explore the limits of a car. Great pics.

Mind if i share some?

Re: California Highway 1

We lived in Santa Cruz for 5 years and our favorite pass time on a weekend was to take Hwy 1 N/S either to Stinson Beach or to Big Sur. We used to drive a six speed Acura TSX which was a real pleasure to drive. Also I used to scuba dive in Monterey, so almost every saturday morning my dive buddy and I used to traverse this road. Some of the beaches on this stretches were absolutely amazing and the underwater topography were very similar to what you see above water. I think a very similar road we once drove was the Great Ocean Road in Australia which had very similar scenery.

I hope you have heard of the "West of highway one club". The speed limits and warnings are posted there for a reason !!

Re: California Highway 1

Point Reyes is a pleasure for anyone who loves the curvy roads. Another location I'll suggest is Licks Observatory. It's high up on mountains and the road is seriously curvy & rather narrow - be safe & have fun!

Re: California Highway 1

Great pictures. This reminds of Great Ocean Drive from Melbourne as mentioned in the previous post. It is very cold though, you can spot lot of Kangaroos in the forest area and Koalas too. Superb photos again
