Hope you are going to add more to the thread. Though from Kerala, I have never been to Silent Valey. Saw a recent program in TV on tourism around this place and has decided to make it some time. Your travelogue should add to the fire I guess

nice trip

Its my favorite hiking camp

Xylo is a very good option for such a route and will serve you as a car from in, an UV from out..

by the way do you mind putting some mud on her skirts?

Day 1 - trek photos

after trekking into the forest for 2 hours and 30 minutes, we took a detour towards the sairandhri watch tower, this is a fire watch tower, approximately 40 feet high, built on top of one of the hillocks with a panoramic view of the valley, this was built with an objective to spot wild fires during summer,

the watch tower offers fantastic views of the silent valley park, some photos from the tower,
in one of the photos you could see kunthi puzha ( kunthi river) in the background.

day 2- trek to karuvara water falls

day 2-
we decided to drive to the nearby tribal colony- 30 minutes drive through a co-operative pepper farm and then a 2 hour trek to reach Karuvara water falls,
karu means - black
vara means - rocky terrain

Hence Karuvara means black rocky terrain in the local muduga tribal language,

lemme begin with a photo of our tracker for the day, Mr. Yesu chettan, a local muduga tribal, he was named after jesus by his parents, his parents were childless for 15 years before they met a christian priest who gave them some medicine and asked them to pray everyday, After a few months, yesu chettan's mother became pregnant and gave birth to twins, they named them Jesus and Maria, Yesu chettan's parents were born hindus and yesu chettan now follows both the religions, goes to the church on sundays and to the temple on rest of the days, what a story for India's religious harmony !!!

photos of Karuvara water falls and yesu chettan,

Lovely pics and interesting write-up Sijil. Liked the Yesu Chettan story. People tend to ignore such lovely stories in their lives. Your Xylo looks hot. How useful is the dynamic information system? Is is accurate?

Silence in the Silent Valley trek!

Folks, he has been silent for almost two weeks now. Looks like the silence in Silent Valley has affected him in a pretty solid way

@salil - where are you, dude? Get on with the trek, will you?

Re: 4 men, a xylo and trekking in silent valley

Gents, got a question for you. I am planning a trip to silent valley next month. Will I need a SUV/MUV to get there. how motorable are the roads at the sanctuary. Looking forward to your answer.
