A popular picnic spot, Neyyar Dam is located around 35 kms from Trivandrum with the Western Ghats providing a picturesque background. The major attractions in Neyyar Dam include a Lion Safari Park, Deer Park, Boating, a well maintained garden, Swimming Pool, Watch Tower & crocodile farm which was renamed as Steve Irwin National Park after late Steve Irwin.

Can't read the sign board?
What about now?
Didn't go for the safari as I had done the same in Bannerghatta National Park. So no pictures of the beasts.
You can find plenty of these around the dam premises & in the watch tower

Nice Post. Stayed in Tvm for over 9 years and these posts have brought on a severe bout of nostalgia. Maybe you could cover Ponmudi also. I dont think there is any other place in the world where you have a hill station 60 kms away from the sea.
Nice photoblog ! If everyone posts about the attractive places near to them like this, we will come to know about many new week end gateways like this which are unknown to others. Not many might have though about coming out photoblogs like this about their short trips. I think, short notes in between would have made this more useful for others.
What do you call that thing stacked at the beachfront in photo dsc04487? Some hydro something?

I think their name is Dolos. See this link
Dolos - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cheeronwheels - I have given the location, route details etc of each location. Pl. tell me if you want me to add any specific info other than this. Anyway I am preparing an Excel sheet with all the details. Will put that up once it is ready.
Hei, that's nice travelogue for Neyyar Dam. Loved the comments too.
Thanks, Jk. I think Neyyar Dam is a place with the potential to attract more visitors if the KTDC improves the facilities & develop the place.
OT - so you have reached office, eh.. :D
Nice Coverage. It was a pleasure to meet you recently. :)
Hi Ranjiith,
We have been contemplating on a 3 weeks trip to south, planning to cover imp places in Kerala, TN and near Bangalore. Now what you are doing through this thread is that we'd have to extend it to 3 months!
BTW, amazing collection of places and quality photographs. This thread would turn out like a ready reckoner (like HVK sir's log books), specially to outsiders, to choose and visit as per one's convenience.
Wonderful idea, and nice collection. Keep it up friend.
@LongDrive lover - Thank you. My intention in starting this thread itself was for people from outside Kerala to know the places around Trivandrum so that it will be easy for them while visiting Kerala. I will continue updating more places & am in the process of preparing one excel sheet collating the data.
@btirthankar - Thank you Basu & it was real nice meeting you too. Continue the drivoblogs, my friend.
Nice pictures as usual , i just checked the meets thread.
