Hi All,
Kaas is a small hamlet 20 odd kilometers off Satara. I read about the wild flowers that bloom between 15th of sept and 1st week of oct just last week. Saw some photos on the net which was magical! Though the season of flowers was technically over, I decided to drive down there. In case the flowers are still there, it would be a good surprise.
A fortnight back I'd embarked on a long trip from pune to udupi and back in just over 2 days. My windshield cracked on the return journey. Ford was closed for diwali and I have a date with them to replace my windshield on 21st. A cracked windshield didn't deter me. I just thought I'd jump in the car and drive there. Even if the flowers aren't there, the trip should be magical enough.
I got my car cleaned up quickly. My baby is gonna embark on an epic drive again. My wife didn't know what's Khaas(special) about kaas. I didn't want to build up her expectations only to go there and see the place barren with no flowers. Surprisingly, my parents decided to come along too! So getting them all ready took us longer than planned. I wanted to leave by 8 am. But we managed to get in to our car with all paraphrenalia by 12. I decided to take the roads through the villages as every time it's only the expressway (pune satara) that I take. Thought that would be different.
Soon we were off. The road to Saswad was good. The climb through the dive ghat was scenic. I decided to enjoy the drive than do what I normally do on the expressway. So kept the speed around 70 - 80 all the time!
Pic 1: Here's a view of Pune that I left behind around 40 mins back from the Dive Ghat!
Pic 2: My Josh Machine on Dive ghat
Pic 3: All that glitters IS gold! Well, the crack on the windshield is not noticeable right?
The road straightened out after we climbed dive ghat. It was smooth and was dotted with trees on either side. That was a welcome change from the expressway. I could stop to take photos where ever I want.

Soon I found a nice tree to park my car beneath to stretch myself. It was a welcome sight to see farmers. They do so much of toiling around. I've become a sloth sitting in a/c rooms in front of computers. Probably IT people are the lasiest in the world :D

A sneak peak in to what's coming up in this travelogue!
Diwali is over and I'm looking at huge pending work at office. Not sure how quickly I can revert to continuing this travelogue. Hence this teaser.
Sunset on the way to Kaas.
Down shift and increase the speed of the travelogue, MX6.
We are still waiting for the cool pics!
Hi,
Good to see the farmers along with the Hal and the Bails (Ox's). Awaiting more snaps.
Hmmm.. hope you got to see the flowers in full bloom.. waiting to see the pics
man,
you are going to kaas and your route is via dive ghat.
can you elaborate why you had chosen dive ghat route rather than katraj ghat.
@rajshenoy: The spoiler is that I didn't get to see the flowers. Will have to wait another 325 odd days for that I guess. But I did see some marvelous scenaries!
@sami316: Yes. I will post more snaps of the country side! It was good to go away from the city and mingle with simple village folk!
@pulsar56: Yes sir. I'm stuck with too much of work post diwali. I will upload the photos soon.
@ASHISHPALLOD: Yes sir. I got bored taking NH4 all the time. I wanted to try something different. Hence set out towards saswad, jejuri route. I wanted to stop where I felt like. Hence I took the dive ghat. It was fun.
Thanks for waiting patiently. I shall definitely put up photos soon. work is killing me offlate... :Frustrati

Khoj Stands true to his handle. He searches all my travelogues and gets behind.
The issue is that I keep travelling.
Just couple of weekends back I went on a trip to Udupi and Sringeri.
this weekend it was trip to Kolhapur and ganapati pule.
Next weekend it will be Harihareshwar and dive agar.
The first rains of the monsoons, it's gonna be a trip to Coastal Karnataka through NH17 all the way.
Please wait guys. Let me get through with the tirunelveli trip, then the trekkalogue and then finish the Kaas.
One option is to sleep less and write travelogues. :)
Jokes apart, it is understandable since the one year old needs lot of your attention.
You could try jotting down your travelogue as and when you travel. As in, every day night or something like that. At the end of the journey, fine tune the contents and upload. Negative of this approach would be to keep traveling with a laptop (theft worry).

I travel a lot. 20K kms in 6 months of driving should explain! My netbook goes with me. I've even outsourced the photography to my wife (except when I find the route scenic and start randomly clicking while at the wheel - ofcourse, I slow down a lot find empty stretches, amble along and click).
So the only way is to reduce my driving.
Maybe you should do what I do, keep all travelogues in a single thread ;)

Thank your stars my name is khoj and not 'stalker'.
Jokes apart though a lot of people post travelogues only very few are worth following and yours are way up in my list of those to follow.

Man, you IT guys seem to have all the time in the world to pursue your hearts desires. We are stuck in the bricks & mortar world and rely on your travelogues to expand our horizons and to go where no one with a real job has gone before. Could not resist that :D

I thought the Tirunelveli travelogue was over? Ok now I recall you are to put down your preparations on the trip. All right I will wait but will eagerly look forward to the Kaas trip especially since I now plan to go there this September.
A suggestion ( for you and all other tbhp members who post travelogues) is that at the end of each travelogue if you could list out the hotels and restaurants that you stayed or ate in, complete with the contact details and room tariffs it will be an unbeatable guide to people who follow.
All the very best for your upcoming trips.
