Summer South Trip - 2010

The total distance covered during this holiday trip is 3050 kms.

Places visited : Bangalore, Sulthan Bathery, Wayanad - Via. Thirunelli Temple and Kuruva Islands, Ooty and Valparai.

6th May, 2010

We have started at Hyderabad at 7.15 a.m and reached Bangalore by around 4.30 p.m. In fact touched Hebbal by around 4.00 p.m.

The road till Kurnool is excellent. In spite of work still on after Kurnool on NH 7 the road is very good. We have to touch Gooty and Penukonda as the Bypass is not ready.

To be continued....

Oh! yes, wasn't i waiting for your travelogue.

That sounds great, 3k & odd kms should have given a great experience.

i guessed as much about the road condition.

GVK, keep it coming please, at good intervals though.

Thanks Nandan. It was really a great experience. Thoroughly enjoyed the trip. So many Ghat roads. I am really passionate about driving. Never felt tired.

Thought so. The rocky terrains through which the tungabhadra flows is very evident in the photo. Vijayanagara is probably the only empire that flourished in rocky terrains. All because Vidyaranya helped establish this on the banks of Tungabhadra!

Tunga Bhadra in rocky terrain is all the more enticing! The dam at Hampi looks all the more beautiful.

Yes it's the Xylo. We had very comfortable drive. We were 4 adults and 3 kids. The ladies, who are not used to long drives, never felt tired.

gvk,

by the way, how much did your Xylo return? Did you try the max speed? how much you could do without feeling uncomfortable?

i hope i didnt make a mistake by not opting for this vehicle, when i was looking for another car last year. I did take a test drive of this car, but somehow it didn't figure in the final three. Reading your thread is reminding me of Xylo more. i seem to observe the Xylo more these days.

During the trip we have crossed 17 Toll Gates and paid Rs.660/- towards the toll fee. At all the gates it's only one way.

Yes.. I think it's called N.S. Gate (Nagasamudram gate) if my memory goes correct.

Continuation of Summer South Trip - 2010

8th May

After spending a day with my brother's family on 7th May, we have started from Bangalore at around 6.30 a.m. on 8th May after picking up my cousin.

We reached the toll plaza at Bannerghatta Road at 6.53 a.m.

We got suggestion to have Buffet Breakfast at a Kamat Hotel which comes after travelling around 60 to 70 kms. on the right side from Bangalore. However, we missed out that Kamat but found another one on our left side after driving few kms.

We took the bypass road near Srirangapatna and before reaching Hunsur we were supposed to take a deviation to reach Nagarhole forest. We missed out that deviation and travelled good distance towards Madikeri. Wasted over one hours time to return back to Hunsur and then drove towards Nagerhole Forest.

After entering details in the register at the Check post we leisurely entered the Nagarhole forest. We spotted a chained Elephant and lots of Deer on our way out.

We reached Thirunelli temple at around 1.30 p.m. after crossing Kutta and Tholpetti Wildlife Sanctuary.

Photographs till Nagarhole

Thirunelli Temple

By the time we reached Thirunelli Temple it was closed and we were told that the temple will be open only after 6 p.m.

There's an Udupi Hotel near the temple. We had Kerala lunch - Boiled rice and warm water - a new experience. Then we climbed down to Papanasini Stream where a narrow stream of water was flowing during this summer.

It was very humid at Thirunelli and suddenly it started to rain for few minutes.

Thirunelli is a picturesque Temple. Some restoration work was going on during our visit.

We enjoyed the visit to the temple.
