@ampere - Thank you, bhai.

Lalu, I am pretty crappy with maps. I still rely on the old school method of asking locals on the way. If I am to draw a map of Valparai, you are most likely to end up some where itself.

@pypkmsrikanth - some of the locals were calling it nallamudipoonchola & some others were calling it nallamalapoonchola. I guess I will take both

@ranjith.rajaram - Our sentiments on that day were the same!

That is the problem with ma'ams. Later on in your life you wonder how all that stuff went over your head!

Re: A Two Day Trip to Valparai via Athirapally & Vazhachal

Moderator note: Post Edited, please avoid typing like this.... also do a Spell Check and Preview before Submitting the post.

I just did the Valparai Guruvayur route via athirapally, man what a disappointment for the first 2 hours. The drive upto valparai was good, but thereafter till half way through to athirapally, i had to battle potholes which could swallow up my ride. The road was full of of them and spread with pebbles as if a truck dumped them right in the middle, i was crawling at about 10kmph.

Thereafter the ride improved till i hit the west coast road(i preferred the outer route than entering trichur) This road was bombarded and the ride was not that smooth but much better than before.

The inner route from gurvayur to trichur was simply fantastic, well marked with road reflectors and thus i was able to clip.

Will i do it again, yes but probably well avoid the valparai route. But all besides, as the previous posts present, the rout is scenic with beautiful rest spots and water bodies.

searaider,the route is for an experience which you wont get in a highway,this is for you to have the nature in full course while on wheel! for me Munnar-valparai-athirappilly round trip was always an experience for to remember.I did maximum trips in this route in my RX100.

What you should have done is:

Valparai-Pollachi-Kollengode-Alathur-Pazhyannur-Wadakkancherry-Kecheri-Guruvyur

Its about 20km more, but good roads all the way. (Route Link)

Re: A Two Day Trip to Valparai via Athirapally & Vazhachal

Yeah, now i know, i should have routed back via polachi, but the whole idea was to reach kerala via valparai and some posts here dated 2012 stated the drive to be good which kind of tempted me, but no harm done, earn from experience. Just a word of caution to all intending to attempt the route i took, there is no mobile coverage for about 80% of the mountain route and it is dreadfully isolated with scarce traffic and God forbid if a vehicle breakdown or any other unfortunate occurs.
