Trichu to Wayanad - Day trip in Tavera. We started from home at 5.00am and picked a friend and family as he had arranged for the forest guest house at Tholpetty Wildlife sanctury on Mysore highway. The route taken was Trichur, Perinthalmanna, Manjeri, Thamarassery, Kalpeta & Tholpetty. On the way we also visited Pookote lake. The guest house was an old wooden cottage belonging to the Forest Dept. All the VIPs were provided the same bungalow. It is in the forest itself and at night you can hear the sound of the wild. It was an unforgetful experience. The climate became chill by night and we had to get into sweaters as we are not used to it. By evening 5.30 we were surrounded by hundreds of spotted deers that came for grazing. Next day morning 6.30 they forest arranged 2 jeeps and took us into the forest accompanied by 2 forest guards in each jeep. Though there was a long queue of visitors, our jeep was sent first and as we went deeper the forest was becoming dense and thick. Guards informed us that Wild elephants were the only ones to be scared off as some times a single tusker charges at you and they can get your scent very quickly. Hence it is always better to avoid using perfumes and wearing coloured clothing while going into the forests. We saw plenty of deers, peacock, eagle etc. We were not lucky to spot any wild animals or even elephants. But the trip inside the forest was great and each moment we were looking out for something to jump out of the wild in front of us. The sun was also coming up and the scenery was also beautiful. They say that Tholpettu forest is much dense and thicker than the Muthangya forest in Wayanad. |
