My Cairo Mornings

After the story of Dinner cruise and belly dance let me show you my Cairo Mornings. I am an early riser. Early to rise types. As I enjoy my mornings, I also catch them in my lens. The view is from my balcony. The irritant is the Light Pillar of the stadium.

I will cover the Pyramids Revisited part after this. While the Dinner Cruise was an eve before Diwali, visit to Pyramids was on Diwali day. Here are my 10 mornings...

Well, like I said before, the Cruise is a Dinner cruise. They are docked all over Nile and have specific places. There are two restaurants on the two lower decks and an open deck on top with bar, chairs to sit and a small souvenir shop. The restaurants have seating of 80-100 each and in the centre of seating area is a small stage to perform. There is also a small bar and buffet area in each restaurant. By no means the area is spacious. Day time they maintain and stay on shore. Night there are two shows every day of two hrs each starting at 7:30 and 10:00. Anything specific you can ask me.

The Pyramid of Khafre is the middle sized one. But gives an impression of the biggest as it is located on a higher ground. The plaster on top gives it a distinct look. IMO it is one of the best preserved and best located. The entire complex can be seen. The Sphinx was supposed to guard the Pyramid and at the entrance of the mortuary complex.

Pyramids Revisited

There were lots of groups of school children who were on visit. They were keen on talking with us and taking with us, especially with my mother-in-law who was in saree! We talked about the Indian movies, Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan.

Hi TB

It appears your Egyptian Days are yielding very rich dividends to you.
viz. not only visiting pyramids, learning about new culture, buying a new DSLR, becoming father for the second time and getting the second princes (that too an egyptian national - will she be indian or egyptian ?), attending parties with egyptian native flavour...what not

more important, you are spending efforts to record your impressions.
this not only help you and your family to re-live the moments, but also provide us an opportunity to peek into what Egyptian days are all about.

Congratulations on becoming the father for the second time. your pictures are indeed very good.

keep it up, thanks for sharing.

Dont you think by building new offices (ticket counters etc.) so near the pyramids they are spoiling the whole ambiance?

Pyramids Revisited

What I missed out last time was the "Panorma" or the view point. This place gives a good view of all the three points. To be very frank I did not know that this place existed. Its worthwhile a visit. No charges, just a short 5mins drive.

@StarVegabond : Thanks for your comments. Yes, looks like Egypt is suiting me. About citizenship, IMO she would dual, one by virtue of descent and another one by virtue of birth.

Very true these moments dont come again.

I am sorry if somewhere I suggested that a new ticket office is being built. Its an old building AFAIK it existed. The Pyramids dominate the area and infact once you are in the pyramid area you can not see the Ticket Office/Counter. The ticket office is located under the shadow of sand dunes.

Anyways, the height of ticket office is not more than 1.5 times the height of one pyramid stone.

Pyramids Revisited

The second thing I missed out last time (too hot and all of tired) was the Solar Boat Museum. Check out more :

Khufu ship - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There are five boat pits near the Khufu's pyramid. The boat was discovered intact, untouched since the time it was sealed in 1952. Its really huge and marvelously made. It measures 43.6m in length and 5.9m in width.

The boat pits outside the Great Pyramid.

My Egypt Days : Photologue-dsc_1165.jpg

My Egypt Days : Photologue-dsc_1171.jpg

Huge stone blocks that were used to cover the pits

My Egypt Days : Photologue-dsc_1179.jpg

The Solar Boat Museum (Right next to the Pyramid) located on the site and encompassing the pit where solar boat was discovered.

Entry Price : LE 50/- Many people debate if its worth that money. Well, you dont visit Egypt every second day. The ticket is definitely overpriced but the place should not be missed.

My Egypt Days : Photologue-dsc_1224.jpg

One needs to cover the footwear with these cloth coverings to maintain the area. They are provided at the entrance free of cost.

The main pit inside the museum

TB - the map made me remember something.
This picture was taken from the pizza hut directly opposite to the Giza complex. Ancient and modern world in a head on collision!

My Egypt Days : Photologue-dsc00494.jpg

Did you by any chance visit that KFC/Pizza hut?

Yes, I have been there. Its a good vantage point. There is also a lodge next to KFC. However, i went to an Egyptian restaurant for the Lunch.

Pic from the same direction. Though I am left of it. I see that the restoration work of Sphinx was going on that time too!

"Its holiday time! So what do we do?"

Wifey : Lets do the Nile Cruise!

"Is n't the baby small?"

Wifey : Will you have any more holidays like this? Its the best season too!

"Of course not more holidays like this except Christmas. But prices will double that time"

Wifey : So, lets do it!

"But would you be comfortable."

Wifey : I think I would be better off as I dont cook, I dont clean, I just rest.

"Sounds ok. Are you sure?"

Wifey : Yep.

"So...???"

Wifey : Seach and book!

"Yeah, of course!"
