Last weekend I had a chance to visit Denkanikottai, Anchetti, Billgundala when driving to Attur (Salem district). The route we took was Bangalore-> Hosur-> Denkanikottai-> Anchetti-> Billgundala-> Hogenakkal-> Pennaguram-> Mecheri-> Omalur-> Salem-> Panamarathupatti-> Mangalapuram-> Mallikkarai-> Attur.

I am unable to find much photos of these places in TBHP. Therefore the purpose of me putting this log is to have some pictures of Hosur-> Denkanikottai-> Anchetti-> Billgundala in TBHP repository so that it better describes what is in store if you are visiting these places.

Except for the 5-7KM stretch between Anchetti to Billgundala which had very very bad road (or no road infact), rest of the entire distance was a pleasure to drive. The locals in Anchetti suggested not to take Anchetti-> Pennaguram as the 20 KM odd road is in real bad condition and not conducive for driving a hatch kind of vehicle. Therefore without choice, I had to take the route towards Hogenakkal.

The roads from Hogenakkal until Salem via Pennaguram, Mecheri and Omalur was fantastic.

This route Salem-> Panamarathupatti-> Mangalapuram-> Mallikkarai-> Attur was unknown to me until I saw it in Google maps. I guess it must be unknown to many. The route was equally beautiful. Very green and surrounded by hills. The road was pretty good inspite of being located deep, but practically, this route is never needed unless you want to
experience country side landscape and pristine greenery in this part of Tamil Nadu. However, owing to time constraint, I could not take pictures of this route.

I am sorry that this post may lack variety in pictures. Apart from the green trees, the hills and the road, there was nothing more that I could think of capturing. But I hope this log helps in some way to some one.

Some photos taken on the way to Denkanikottai:

Very nice pics, Hosur to Denk road was recently done and its amazing.
There are lot of beautiful places in Anchetti to visit like Forests and rivers.

Some photos taken on the way to Anchetti from Denkanikottai.

LAst time I did this trip, the road was getting widened. Hosur-Denkanikota - Anchatti road looks awesome now.
Must be the best route to Hogenakkal (for 2 lane lovers).

Abhi

The road pics are simply mesmerizing, especially the DSC00198, DSC00209 & DSC00217 - I'm blown away; and look at the roads, they're good too; can't believe such good roads in such remote places & are looking so beautiful.

I have done this route when I did the Hoggenekkal. The roads were good untill you cross the ghat. After that, it was a very bad road till checkpost. But had an excellent Kaveri all along the road when you reach near Hoggenekkal.

Seems the roads are still maintained/laid and is in good condition. Good to know. Thanks.

Wow the road looks very nice! Fresh tar looks very inviting.

How do you hit this road from Hosur? Is this the one which passes through the Hosur railway station?

Thank you every one!

@mjothi, I think, the road conditions are still more or less the same as you describe. However, I saw workers laying new roads. So the road condition might have improved a little since your last visit.

@ampere, yes you are right. I took the right turn soon after crossing the lake on the right side when approaching Hosur to hit the road that passes through the railway station.

Some more pictures taken after Anchetti

k149in - Don't feel sorry for lack of variety in your snaps, you have done full justice in capturing the greens of Anchetti. If you have read books by the good old Bangalore hunter tuned conservationist Kenneth Anderson (KA), you will see that forest in and around Anchetti are detailed during his expeditions

Google maps show a heavy green belt around Anchetti.
It might be fun to drive to Hogennakkal via Anchetti for weekend jaunt.

Was the green belt between Anchetti and Hogennakkal?

+1, I was always waiting to explore in and around Anchetti. The pictures look lovely. And it was the stories of Kenneth Anderson which has inspired me to check it out. I was supposed to go to Hogenakkal a couple of months ago and I was planning to take this route Bangalore-Kanakapura-Anchetti-Biligundla-Hogenakkal, but due to some reasons, I could not do the trip. Now, seeing the pics and good roads, I may soon plan another one. Any idea on road conditions between Kanakapura and Anchetti?

I was thinking of doing an Anchetti roundabout without going to Hogennakal. Do I miss anything?

What I thought:
BLR-NICE-Kanakpura-Anchetti-Denkanikottai-Hosur-BLR.

@Aditya, I do not know about the road conditions between Kanakapura and Anchetti. As per Sanju in the thread below, the road condition is okay for driving.

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/route-...bangalore.html

@Ampere, the forest becomes thicker after Anchetti, but all through the way the vegetation is pleasant.

Let me go ahead and complete uplaoding the remaining pictures.

The pictures 324 and 329 shows the bad roads. In 351 what it appears like a catchment area is the river Cauvery and adjacent to it is Billgundala.

DSC00364 show the path to Billgundala from the T section you enter when coming from Anchetti. Left takes you to Hogenakkal and right turn takes you to Billgundala.

Finally, last two photos that were taken near Attur (to be precise, they were taken somewhere near Kammalapatti).
