Travelogue – Country of low lands & the City of lights

Note – This is the modified version of an earlier photo log of mine. Based on positive responses from my friends to my recent TL, I convinced myself to modify the random collection of pictures from my 2010 trip into a proper TL. Thanks to mods for allowing me to do it!

Before I get into narrating my stories, here’s leaving you guys with some teaser pictures to give an idea of what to expect in the posts to come.

PS: Tip to save you guys some time - You may directly go to page 4 (post #49?) from here if you want to avoid reading all the posts from the earlier photo log

That crazy little red car still stands there is it? I've seen it just as you walk from Amsterdam centraal to deubenkorf. A stone's throw from there is Gandhi restaurant!
Don't enter a coffee shop by mistake there.

@chikkars. Nice start. This reminds me my trip to the Netherlands in 2008. Saw quite a few of those tiny red cars in Leauwarden (Capital of Friesland province) too. Have got some snaps (but not of that car), shall post in Sept as a photologue when I get time. Looking forward for more from you.

Oh. So the red car runs is it? I thought it's kept for show because the one I saw in Amsterdam centraal didn't have registration plates and was parked on the footpath!

@wdm. That simple cycle has brakes. One needs to pedal the pedals in the opposite direction to stop. I've ridden one such cycle all around groningen in netherlands.

I remembered a model like this - if you have to brake, you have to pedal in reverse direction. May be it is something like that?

Wow ! thats a new thing I learnt today !

The only thing I learnt in childhood on Atlas cycle was that when you pedal in reverse direction, the chain slips !

@ Chikkars: Sorry for going offtrack ! Very nice pics. Do add captions to pics, we would love to have the narration also from you.

There are other interesting things in Amsterdam, though you might not be able to take snaps there!! You wanna talk about your experiences there? Did you go to the Banana Bar?

I bet there are, Csentil!!

I did a lot of sightseeing over the weekend, which included a lot of city center. Dam square, RDL , Sail 2010, Canal cruise et all. As its summer people (who can be quite wild anyway) go insane. Sunny weather, sailing their own boats with music and drinks and what not.

Will certainly post more pictures of the same

Thanks!! The cycles people ride in the city (almost the whole country is on cycles) does have brakes as they often ride really really fast. But some do not, like the one in the pic. This one's at my office. Our campus is HUGE, with a lake inside and all. So we can just take one of these cycles if we have an appointment in one of the other offices within the campus or if we want to go to the canteen

I'd like to add captions to the pics, but haven't still figured how to do that. When I uploaded the pics, i looked for the option but did not find.

Hi MX6. nice to see your comment. I have been following a lot of your threads and find most of your responses on others' posts quite informative

Btw, there is a coffee shop right across my street. But its one of those dingy places which looks like a pharmacy store. The jazzy ones like Grasshopper in the city look nice Haven't ventured into any of those yet

Here's a photo from my side for you.

The only place that was closed on a busy day which had over a 100,000 footfall on various shops and attractions of Holland!
