Washed out from 18,000 odd ft to sea level - Photologue

In 2006 my brother returns home after a 15 day trip to leh with his friends.
Even before he can unpack we sit down to see all the pictures and videos , AND thereafter we repeated this routine almost every other day. That’s when my brother made up his mind that he should take us all to see Leh.
But could not make immediate plans as my baby was just a month old, so had to wait for a while for one long trip as we wanted to drive all the way to Leh from Bangalore.
Time moved one. Took my son on his first trip to shimla and manali when he was 5 months old , that’s when we realised that we need to make him a traveller too. The early you begin the better as they say. Of course there was an ulterior motive too, If we gave him the ‘BUG’ we could have a ‘YOUNG’ driver and general helper on our travels in our old age . I for one am certain that this ‘DISEASE’ is a life long AFFLICTION…Not that one is looking for a cure.

Finally in the year 2009 we started planning our trip to Leh . The date set was 4th of September 2010 to the 18th September.
My brother was to drive from bangalore to Leh in his gypsy and my parents, hubby, son and myself were to join him from Delhi onwards.
Inspired by all the travelogues on Team BHP and other travel forums, we started pouring in hours of reading and giving finer touches to our plans.

For the drive from Bangalore to Leh in his gypsy so he started working passionately, getting it all geared up for one long holiday .
I started doing the bookings well in advance, all was confirmed.
I was totally glued onto all the travelogues on Leh and jotted down points, as there is a lot to learn from every travelogue.

All of us in the mean time had these pictures clouding our thoughts all the while.

Coooolcat21,

For reference material in photography and location study there can't be any better source than the attached link.

By any chance if you have missed this thread by Rudra Sen (an ace photographer) who has captured Laddakh and Leh in all its splendour. It is a bible on photography and the location you intend to visit.

Great start with benchmark photos, waiting for the story to start. Way to go!!!

Took me 3+ years of planning & multiple tries to at least make it to Leh in June last year, the wait could be agonizing.

The stage was all set.
All advances paid to the travel agent, when tragedy struck the region in the form of a cloud burst totally devastating it and killing hundreds and leaving thousands homeless.

We followed the various logs discussing the pros and cons of travelling to a region that had just faced a tragedy of this imensity and decided not to go ahead with our plans, as we felt that it was too soon to travel in the region and the sights of the destroyed villages and towns would be too hard to bear.

After this misfortune , our plans could only go one way and that was downhill, so we landed on the beaches of Goa, a reasonably happy alternate choice and a place that has been our regular destination for the past years.

As always we stayed at The Leela Goa.
The resort spreads over acres of land with mindblowing landscaping which merges with a very clean and beautifull beach.
Its a perfect place for a calm holiday .
Following are the pictures of the resort and various evenings spent on the beach.

View from our lagoon suite window.

To the OP
Do you want to remove the shot or artillery guns and a military installation?
or is it a public place and always visible to all ?

(OMG! Now the Paki's know we have 6 artillery guns over there !!)

Best to adhere to the Unofficial Secrets Act

Cheers

Had. In 2006. Might be seven now... keep them guessing!

Re: Washed out from 18,000 odd ft to sea level - Photologue

@Ragul . Sir, the picture was taken by me in 2006, this was a transit camp (i think) and was right next to the road and visible to public. As no further pictures of the same have been on any of subsequent travel logs, i guess the guns have been moved.
