Call Of The Valley - Chasing Snow In Narkanda

Prologue:

SS-Traveller posts photos
Desire takes wings
Call of the valley

Mumbai has everything
Snow is what we want
Delhi has what we need

First plane
Then automobile
A plan is made

Whirlwind trip
Winding roads
Snow we see

So there you are, finally. Glad our short-notice trip acted as the trigger and inspiration for you to take off yourself. As of yesterday, the road to Narkanda is snowed out and closed to traffic.

If you must compose those haikus so slowly, just put up the pics first!

@Laluks: I have grown older since the visit to Maldives. So no essays. Only grown up poems

I get into trouble if i try to write too much. Photographs should really do all the talking. And, the captions made the experience even more sweeter.

Re: Call Of The Valley - Chasing Snow In Narkanda

Hi,
Thanks for posting this travelogue. Please excuse this OT post.
Ive just bumped into the travelogue section after a long time.
I will be driving to Spiti on Mon/Tue from Bombay.
I dont have a plan in place. I just plan to hit the road.
How far is the road motorable? Is the road motorable till Kibber?
I will be driving solo and am actually thinking of going as far as the roads permit.
Please advise.

NH22 is not open as of now even till Narkanda, but things might rapidly change with warmer weather predicted next week. Even then, I don't think you can go up to Kibber in the next 2 weeks.

@genesis: A very different kind of travelogue. In three lines you have managed to explain the whole essence of each photograph. It reminds me of the famous "chaar lyna" from Surendra Sharma (haasya kavi).

Agree with SS. A week after the snow fall when I was there, buses were plying till Rekong Peo. I think they stop clearing the road after Kaza.
I seriously doubt you can go upto Kibber.

The Himachal section of Indiamike may give you more replies to such a query

@genesis - Unique way of posting a TL. Really like it after reading TL essays. Not to say that the other TLs are any bad. But this is different

Keep it going.

Re: Call Of The Valley - Chasing Snow In Narkanda

Genesis retraced the Flight of the Hawk, to chase snow
Flew from sea shore and then ran the road!
Snow he got to satisfy his soul
And gave us a poetic travelogue
Pictures are good but coming up too slow
Please hurry up else we will feel low !

Re: Call Of The Valley - Chasing Snow In Narkanda

I knew this was gonna be a TL with a difference and I ain't disappointed. Great on-the-road poetry in there!
EDIT: Could you please provide the dates you're in Narkanda? I've been dying to visit a snowy place, close to Noida, but fear I might be too late since it's starting to get warm already.
