Chennai to Yercaud - a running travelogue.

Planning for this trip started about 2 weeks ago. What with the purchase of the new car and so on. A curious turn for our family was the fact that we decided to splurge on a driver's car instead of giving in to my usual craze of jeeps / wife's usual craze of "dependable" hatchbacks. Also, the car has been relegated to weekend driving / fun driving because neither I nor the wife wanted to give up our current rides (CL500/Ikon). Now that's done - and here we are. On our way to the second long trip in this car where the new car smell hasn't left yet.

I have been trying to get a bunch of friends together for this - my only condition was, bring your own transport. I love travelling in multiple cars - and not only for the practicality aspect. It takes the monotony out of driving. As always expected from my dear friends, none of them finally turned up after expressing interest, so it is gonna be my family and one car.

We decided to leave Friday around 11 AM, so that the little one can finish at least half her school as well. The plan was to pick her up on the way. The excitement caught us and we found a straw of a reason - Yercaud can get foggy in the nights and it is a new road! Yeah right. So anyway - the plan was moved up to start by 4.30 AM.

The start wasn't quite as expected - Both wife and us forgot to set our alarms! Fortunately, there is a little beeper in me that gets excited for little things like drives - so here I am, up at 2 AM itself. Yeah - the trip is today

I will keep updating this log with photos and notes - I hope you guys enjoy reading it too!

After a lot of bribes (we had to buy her a portable video player to ensure she sits in the car for so long!), ok ok .. getting ready!

Overall - whatta ride! Did about 400kms in about 6 hrs with a break +mountain ride + wife driving for about 150 kms. I tried and kept to a max of about 145 kmph while wife even peaked 155 once! She drove slower on the
over all though. I think in the 250 I put in, I was able to do it in 3 hrs or so. More pics as we go through the day - for now, laze and wait for the meal!

Nice captions. I loved those.

Btw, The blacked out tail lamp seems to be overdone for me It definitely spoils the otherwise excellent rear of cruze!

Ok, ok. Go ahead. Waiting for the Yercaud...

You went from Chennai to Yercaud. Then why A2B Krishnagiri?
Or was it A2B Dharmapuri?

PS: The White Cruze looks smashing.

Heh - already back in Chennai after a scorcher of a ride back. For a person who wanted to do a running commentary, I very smartly left my laptop charger behind, hence no updates :(

i will soon write up a trip wrap up!

Love those comments of yours.I assume it is Thoppur A2B. Any reason for not taking the Vaniyambadi - thiruppathur route? I guess it saves you around 50kms.

I think distance saved is max of 15-20 Km and not more. Just confirmed the same once again on Google Maps. Since one cannot cruise on the SH, one does not save that much on time.

On top of it you need to get through Dharmapuri town as well to hit NH7.
