Hi all,

Am planning to buy an i10 magna (sold my Santro last month), and wanted advice on the footwear change, as well as alloys.

Tyres
My main requirements are: better grip, more smoother ride
Am OK with: marginal drop in FE
Am not OK with: bad FE, harsh ride
Absolutely no-no: any problems in the suspension

The i10 comes shod with 155/80R13 tyres. If I stick to 13" rims, then the possible upsizes are 165/75R13, 175/70R13 and 185/65R13 (from the spreadsheet on correct upsizes). If I go in for Michelin, then only XM1 is available in this size, only for size 175/70R13. Are these the correct upsizes, and is there a better tyre than the XM1?

The other possibility is to go in for R14 rims. Then the possible upsizes are 175/65R14, 185/60R14 and 195/60R14 (from the spreadsheet on correct upsizes). All 3 options are available in Michelin Energy XM1.

-> Should I stick to 13", or go for 14"? The autocar review of the i10 mentions it had 14" rims when tested, so guess that shouldn't be a problem.
-> If I go in for 14", then feel that 195/60R14 would be too big for the li'l i10!
-> Finally am not sure about sizes available in Yokohama.

Alloys
Not sure about these. My main requirement is quality, looks come second. The Apollo Acelere wheelz have been mentioned a few times in the threads. But rim width could be a problem, as range seems limited. Have searched through the threads, and come up with the following:

Options
1) Go in for Michelin XM1 175/70R13, with recommended rim width of 5.5, and maybe the Acelere TorqueS016 alloys (13x5.5)
2) Go in for Michelin Energy XM1 185/60R14, with recommended rim width of 5.5, and maybe the Acelere SlayS031 alloys (14x5.5)
3) Am open to any other brand/size

Am confused :-), so need help from the gurus. Hope the post is not too long.

PS: Is this the first i10 post in the tyre and wheel section? :Cheering:

Just get 175/70-13 Michelin XM1 or Yokohama A300.
Don't go for 14" or 185 tyres.

185/65 is a good upsize for your car. All leading brands make good tires, and same for michelin, XM1 is a good tires.
Even the Acelere is a good tire, I am currently using 185/65R13 on my indica.
As for alloys, search this forum, there are lots of discussions for 5.5J alloys in 13" size. Unlucky or not, 13" seems to be a favorite number among hatchback manufacturers

carZest,

Please do post about your final decision and the place of purchase etc. Any hyundai dealer in bangalore offering you any deal on upsize? I am sure quite a number of customers will be asking for it!!

Quite surprising that Hyundai is not giving a good footwear even for the top version of i10.

Thanks for the responses!

@kpzen: thanks! any particular reason to avoid 14" ?
@tsk: 185/65 is not available in the XM1 range.
@HKP: sure! will wait for some more time, and then go again to the dealer :-)

14" will be just too much for the i10 with 1.1L engine(assuming u would need 185 tyres for 14" wheels) and also the ride quality would go down which won't satisfy your requirements mentioned below.

I agree with Prajesh sir,

Stick to what Prajesh says, don't go for 14" or 185 width.

Anju

but can the i10's wheel wells accomodate 14" tires, say 185/60R14.

hellspawn, 185/60 is available in both 13" and 14" (Example) however to be sure best to look at international sites and see which tires + wheel combinations are offered in other markets for the Kia car, although I suspect carZest has already decided.

i wanted to know for a friend who is interested in this upsize, not for carzest:)

took delivery of my car friday. It's an i10 Magna dark gray color.

thanks a ton for the advice on the tyres. decided to swap the stock 155/80R13's MRFs for 175/70R13 michelin XM1s. The grip and braking has improved greatly. Steering though feels hard as I guess everything is still new - am sure it will lighten up a little.

carZest
Congrats for the car and good set of tyres.
How much did u pay for XM1s??

Just tyres or alloys too, where and how much details please.

I paid 2700 per tyre. Since the stock was MRF, the dealer was OK to give only 1500 per tyre. He said only the esteem and the getz would take 155/80. Moreover the stock tyres were tubeless.

Hope this was an OK deal!
