MRF is planning to launch a new brand of asymmetrical tires called the 'PERFINZA'. I guess it's going to replace the ZLO's(personal view here).

I have a habit of checking the type of tires people use in their cars and came across this one. I believe it's the car of an employee in MRF.

Seems to be production ready and the brand has been trademarked.

It's been in the making for a fairly long time. Looking at the tread design though, I would say it wont be a performance tyre. More a mainstream soft-ish compound tyre.

If it was a performance tyre, they would have definitely branded it a ZLO or Z Sports or Z something. MRF have invested a lot of money in creating a ZLO brand and I'm sure they would use it for their performance tyres. All the tyres installed on the ITC, IJTC, Super Stock, Formula 2000 and Formula 1600 tyres are branded ZLO. Obviously the tyre compound and construction and everything is far different from the road going ZLOs, but it's about creating a brand.

So, I feel this Perfinza is something to battle the likes of the Earth 1, the Michelin XM2 and the Continental CC5. They will be soft but with typical MRF ruggedness. The rubber compound also in the pictures above look soft.

Saw these tyres at the MRF showroom. They have been marketed as tyres for premium cars. They have given me a brochure too which has pictures of only BMWs and Audis.

Any idea of the prices, especially the 195 size ones?

I am a fan of Zlo's, but if this gives more comfort over performance, I will go for it on my Aspire diesel.

Out of curiosity, i checked for my Civic - 195 65 R15 is approx Rs. 5450 per tyre. The dealer says, i can fit one, test it for satisfaction and then replace the rest :) This is in Chennai

After getting fed up of sidewall damage on Indian highways, some premium car owners could definitely give these a shot. Knowing MRF, they'd be tough as a rock :D and be cheaper too.

I wouldn't count enthusiasts in this bunch; they'll stick to their grippy Michelins & Yokohamas. But there are lot of non-enthusiast premium car owners out there who want a tyre that just works (with no care or understanding of grip levels, noise etc.).

I actually feel these will be on par with whatever Michelin/Yokohama have to offer. Their ZLO was meant for grip and gripped better than the equivalent Michelin/Yokohama. But the ZLO was noisy according to a lot of users.

The Perfinza is MO rated. And that is very very very difficult to get. So, I'm confident that at least in the MO rated sizes, they will be as good as the foreign brands. There may be some subjective differences in ride comfort, noise etc but overall, I have high expectations from the CLY pattern.

The CLX looks quite different. It is too early to judge these tyres that they might be hard or not grippy enough. I hope someone gets to test them objectively. They seem to be available in 225/45-17. The stock size for the vRS. Wish I had a vRS to test them....oh wait! lol:

If someone from MRF's marketing team is reading - You know my address.... I'm waiting. please:

Will write a lengthy post in a few days or a couple of weeks after driving them in a variety of situations.

The ads have been airing on TV for quite some time now. I was wondering why there was hardly any discussion on this topic. The name sounds a bit Italian. I guess they are targeting enthusiasts with this brand.

I was also looking for a change on my Laura from current GY Assurances. Was not looking for performance tyres anyways and more for silent performance and improving ride comfort. Goodyears were a nightmare; so noisy and hard that i had almost forgot the notion of a good ride.

Yoko Earth 1 was what i had in mind and had good reviews however a visit to the MRF dealer and further probing into the tyres themselves let me to believe these being a good product and worth a try.

Got 4 205/55 r16 of these at ~28K including balancing / alignment and weights. Haven't driven much (~200Kms) as yet but the difference is huge from Goodyears. Tyres are very silent and the droning is almost gone (apart from some gravely surface roads). Ride Quality too is vastly improved and has a very soft edge, just what i wanted.

I don't have any other comparable however as a standalone product too this seems a great new entrant, not too costly and right up there with the best available. Nikhil probably can give a much more useful comparable insight with other similar tyres but for now I am very satisfied with these!
