Hey guys,
As some of you know, my Lancer is undergoing a major overhaul. Skipping to the relevant part - the tyres and the alloys.
For the alloys, I have decided upon the Plati PY509 rims, which are the M6 replicas that can be seen on this thead:
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/tyre-a...ade-civic.html
Now comes the tough part - the tyres.
I had almost finalized Yokohama AVS ES100 tyres - size: 205/55/15.
However, these are unavailable in Calcutta... am getting them in Bombay for 4k per tyre. Shipping will cost close to 1.5k for 5 tyres + octroi + W.Bengal state taxes + the running around to get a waybill for the same.
So I started checking out the local options.
In the 205/55/15 size, the only option for me is Goodyear Eagle Ventura. Some like this tyre, but I think they are a little too hard, and not to my liking.
Tyrewalla suggested I opt for 205/50/15, which have a smaller RR than the stock 175/80/13, but have been used without hassles on Lancers.
Options:
Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 & a Falken tyre (dunno the model name).
Else,
Go down one size and opt for 195/60/14.
Options:
Michelin Pilot Preceda, GY Eagle F1 GSD2, Bridgestone Potenza G3
So guys, need your suggestions here. Should I go for 15 inchers? 205/50/15 seems to suggest a harsh ride (however, I am fitting Pedders heavy duty coil springs + Pedders Comfort Gas shockers - this should be kept in mind). The GSD3's cannot be that bad... tirerack has it #3 in its category. I've been quoted 4.4k per, but this may go down after some bargaining.
Or should I play it safe and opt for 14"? I was thinking of the Pilot Precedas (< 3.5k per) if so. What's the feedback on them?
Little help here? please:
Razor, 205/55-15 will foul on full load with the rear body work. Suggest you take the 205/50-15.
Harmon_bro had the same problem with his tyres, they used to scrape the rear fender.

Ride will go down but they will not scrape.
Tyres, from your options the goodyear venturas seem to be ok. No such bad review from those. But dont go near the goodyear eagle f1's. higher rate of wear and very noisy. They are number one on tire rack cause the roads are not comparable to the ones we have here. On bad roads they pose many problems.
Michelin Preceda is the best bet. Our inhouse tyre wallah Iraghava has them on his OHC. get a review from him.
The bridestone Potenza g-III are also very good. Nice grip but they can be a little noisy on the lancer.
I would play it safe for good ride and handling and go for 195/60-14 in the Michelin energy XM1 or the potenza G-III.

You mean Preceda? Don't want to go for XM1.
Yeah preceda if your looking for performance and energy XM1 if ride is more priority.
@razor - as someone mentioned in harmon_bro`s thread the look of a particular rim (like the M6 replica) or any rim depends on the size ,it may not look that good in 14` size but would look killer in 17` but as you want good ride quality then IMHO atleast go for 15` rims. :)
@faithless: that's a good point. will have to mount them on the car and see how they look. i saw these in 14" on an NHC and they looked pretty darn good... in fact, they were my inspiration so to speak :)
but yea, i'll keep that in mind.
btw, any other suggestions for rims? i want to go for the machined-black finish (as in the rim pics mentioned above).
Lol.. you're tempting me dude! I'm just a little unsure about the kind of ride I'll get from 15 inchers, especially with a 50 profile.
Will I survive Indian roads on these?
yeah dude no probs with the 15".
Also you are changing your suspension. That should be a little stiff so even with the 205/55-15 your car may not come that low to touch the body work.
Just select the alloy offset and rim width correctly.
You can also try 195/55/15 but the ride isn't that great. Even though is better than 205s. I wouldn't recommend 205s 15inch at all.
I think your best bet would be 195/60/14 Michelin Pilot Preceda.. best of both worlds (performance & comfort)
Im sure a lot of you have used the Michelin Pilot Preceda, how are they for our Indians roads, when considering comfort as priority?
Opps! I did not consider the change of suspension in my ealier post.
205/55/15 is a little tough to get... like i mentioned, only Venturas are available in this size and i'm not too keen on those.
What say you about 205/50/15?
Put 17"s with 215/40 ZR 17. Looks smashing on a Lancer.
Lol... I have a bad back already dude. Don't think 17 inchers will help :)
Wish I could tho...
But coming back to the 15"... how harsh a ride will these provide, as compared to a 14" setup?
To be honest, 17s are not all that bad. I've driven quite a few cars with them, and with soft OE setups like the Lancer, they're livable. Yes, you can't fly over bad roads or speed-breakers, but they'll be ok.
Anyway, 15"s vs 14"s also depends on the brand of the tyre. Some are softer and ride better, so you won't tell the difference, some aren't. But empirically, the 14"s will have a better ride.
Why Plati? Why don't you go OZ or Enkei?
