Hey guys i got my optra magnum 2 weeks back and its the top end LT model with alloys and tubeless tyres
i think its 15 j alloys
195/60/15 goodyear GT3 tubeless tyres
i dont have any problems with them but i was wondering if i should upgrade to 205/55/15 or 205/60/15 or if i can change the alloys to 16 inch need some expert advice(also i read somewhere in these forums that there is a problem with the GT3 tyres but chevy salesman told me they are good for 56000 kms and my friend who owns a petrol optra said his first set of tyres which came with the car lasted for 50000 kms)so should i upgrade alloys/tyres or keep the company fitted ones

if you find there is less grip or too much niose etc. then you can change the tyres. you dont need to necessarily upgrade to 205. you can also change to 16 inch rims but then your ride quality will be sacrificed for more grip and better looks.

Are you looking for preformance with superior grip? Are the current tyres noisy and have poor ride comfort.

If none of the above I would suggest you stick to the goodyears gt3. Yes they are not the best but for everyday driving they will suffice.

The magnum has nice set of 15" alloys, theres really no need to spend money and get them changed.

Enjoy the car.

Are they GT3 or NCT3 ? I would think it'd be Goodyear NCT3. Coz that is what my Octavia came with & those are crap. Mine were replaced within the first 12-15k kms - replacement under warranty from the company after a lot of  My advice change them if they are NCT 3.

Cheers

they are the gt3 and i dont have any problems with the existing tyres only drawback is they look 2 thin for the car and akshay1234 what do u mean by ride quality will ne sacrificed by changing to bigger alloys ? i thought bigger wheels give better ride quality on bad roads or am i mistaken

Well if you want to then you can upgrade to better rubber from other brands like Michelin/Bridgestone/Yokohama & upsize the tyre size to 205/60 R15.

But frankly if you do not feel that the stock tyres are inadequate then there is no need.

205 tyres will foul with the side walls when you turn fully.make sure you get a 50 or less profile tyre. but be warned the ride will suffer a bit!!

Nims at least read the query date !! His tyres must've worn out by now. btw 205 does not foul in any which way on the magnum,in fact 205/55/R15 is a very handsome upsize on that car.

Rudra Sen runs 205/60/15 on his car. I don't think he's having scraping issues.

oops...didnt read the date of the query!! my bad...

as for the fouling i just read it somewhere in the forum that somebody's tyres were hitting the sides of his magnumstupid:

My Magnum Optra has run around 35k kms and her OE tyres are showing signs of wear.

I read earlier in this forum that the OE tyres can be upgraded to 205/55/R15 from their present 195/60/15 version.

Question/s:
- Should I be replacing all 5 tyres together?
- Which tyre brands must I consider in the Delhi market?
- Names of authentic dealers in South Delhi?
- How much would this set me back by?

Thanks in advance.

Recently a friend got his Optra tyres replaced by Continental as suggested by Nikhilb2008, he got a set of 4 for about 17.5k at Madhus here in Bangalore, he is quite happy with the performance when compared with the OEM tyres he had.
The size he bought were the OE 195/60/15.

The tyre brands considered were
Yokohama
Michelin
Continental

It isnt necessary to change all 5. You can buy only 4 and keep the best tyre out of your current set as a spare.

Cost would be around 17-19k for a set of 4 depending on the brand.

First, you finalise on a size. Then consider options.

I am in a fix if i should upgrade to the 205/60/r15 or 215/55/15. I have ruled out the g3 because i have it on one of my cars and they are not so inspiring. Im wondering if the 55 profile will make the tyres too skinny.Thoughts anyone?
Im addicted to yokohama's and am confused over the A,C,S drive veriants.

Heard lot of good reviews on Yokohama A drives.
205/60/r15 - If you need good GC.
