That's the exact same price I paid for the Primacy 3ST in Pune around 6 weeks back. I bought them at Lokmanya Tyres, off Karve Road.

Pricing is good. Though XM2 should be cheaper!

Hey ! I need tire help for my Civic . Looking for 205/55/R16.

Narrowed it down to

1.Continental Premium Contact 2
Pros - good grip, cheaper
Cons- tire noise and claim from dealer that Conti imports have stopped for a while until their factory in India gets started. If that is the case I don't wanna have to wait to get a replacement tire.

2. Yokohama V550
Pros- Much more comfortable, grippy enough
Cons- more expensive

P.S.
Everything stated above is from my point of view and reports from friends and people who I feel know their stuff :D. Might be wrong.

You should also consider the Michelin Primacy 3 ST. Pretty good tyre and on par with the other 2 options.

You cant go wrong with either of these 3 options. Just go with whatever you like.

Well .. after a lot of deliberation and research (which included bugging Nikhil several times :) ) I finally changed the tyres on my Civic. I had narrowed down the choices to the Michelin Primacy 3ST or the Yokohama AVS db V 550. I was inclined towards the Michelins but, as you'll know, sadly, they are not available in 205/65 R 15. Given the suspension of the Civic and the state of the Mumbai roads I was pretty sure I wanted the upsize for whatever little relief the slightly increased profile would bring in terms of the ride comfort and ground clearance. Hence I had no option but to go for the Yokos.
Initially, I was a little disappointed with the ride quality but I think the tyres sort of settled in after about a 1000 kms. (and some experimenting with the air pressures). The ride is definitely better than my stock Bridgestones and on tar roads the car feels silky smooth. On other surfaces I'm not so impressed with the smoothness and the silence but I'm not sure if that's just me being picky, as I don't have anything to compare against.

Planning to change the stock Goodyear tyres in my Civic (they did their life - 40k and bald patches in one of them).
Mostly city drive. I live in Bangalore and unfortunately, recently there are many bad roads - some unpaved too). I also do long drives (700km+ one way) once in 2-3 months

Two considerations
- comfortable drive
- low road noise (I am disturbed with road noise from current tyres)

Considering Yoko v550 (205/65/15)
vs Michelin Primacy ST3 (195/65/15)

Any comparisons/recommendations on ride comfort and noise. Most of the comparisons I read here talk about noise (that v550 is better). Not much about ride.

(in case you are wondering I picked ST3 195 as in another thread there is a side by side photo and Michelin 195 is as wide as Yoko 205.

Hi All, need your suggestions on replacing my civic tyres.

Stock bridgestone tyres run for 30k in 7 years. I see the thread depth is still quite good. But look like they have hardened a bit.

Need your inputs, whether to continue with them or replace (195's or 205's) .

Tyre rubber will detoriate after six years and must NOT be used.

I would go in for any Michelin ones.
Presently I have Primacy LC and they are excellent.

I have only the OEM size of 195.

Many here in team-bhp have upgraded to 205 which is okay.
And yes, as the dia increases you get the slight height advantage.

I have the Bridgestone Turanza's 205's. You can easily upgrade to 205's which will aid in increasing the ground clearance by a few mm's but be prepared for below.

1- The steering becomes a bit heavy.
2-The car becomes a bit sluggish at start due to increased rolling resistance.Solution to this is to fill up at 32 psi in the tyres and maintain same.
3-There will be some odo/speedo error due to the increased circumference of the tyre.
4-You might end up with a stepney which is a size smaller than the rest of the tyres if you buy only 4 tyres instead of 5.
5-The car would look sexier with the beefier tyres:D. I am sure you could live with this one.

I totally agree with sumeet. Have been using XM2 205 for about a year and a half and have done about 15k. You will get used to the steering and 32 psi is the ideal pressure. The increase in GC is a boon and have'nt found much of a change in the FE. The noise levels have reduced quite lot compared to the stock. And high speed handling has improved.

Hey it is good to be picky. The biggest boon of getting the AVS dB is that they are silent on concrete roads where almost all other tires make some sort of noise. On blacktop roads though the Michelins as well as the Turanza GR90 are more silent.

The only downside of the Yoko AVS is that it is a unidirectional tire and a tire mounted for use on the right hand side of the vehicle cannot be used on the left hand side & vice versa. Of course if one wants one can do so but the tire will be damaged. To switch sides the tire has to be dismounted from the wheel, flipped and then remounted.

The above makes these tires not at all usable as spare tires for which one must have a normal bidirectional tire as spare.

In fact the above is also a very good reason to recheck the side walls of your tires to check whether they were mounted correctly to start with.
The direction of rotation is very clearly marked on these tires by huge arrows indicating the direction of rotation.




sreeku, for the Civic in case you want to stick to stock size and also take on the roads in Bangalore, you could try the Goodyear Assurance. Fellow member *Distinguished* from Bangalore Lalu KS has these on his Civic and his car goes places with and without roads that no one can even think of going and I have never heard him complaining about noise either.

As far as the Yokos are concerned they are good tyres, i have them in my Cedia and the ride is very supple. In my car too these tires have been places where only tractors dare to go and yet the tires roll on.

Road noise is a combined factor of tire design as well as wheel well resonance. If your car's wheel well design/build adds to road noise no amount of tire technology can keep that annoying booming / humming noise away.

In the end your comment about the comparative tire widths has left me amused. Visual trickery is a great marketing tool and there are many takers for the same, no wonder it works. Rest assured though 205 is still 10 mm wider than 195.
