Well, that doesn't gel with the numbers on the Zen tyre. The number listed on one tyre is 60288752122 or something like that (I might have read it wrong, but the last 4 digits are correct). Another tyre ends with 3740.

So the mystery continues. But what will people who see me think . . .

What I meant was when I crawl under the car, what will other people think . . .

If this tyre was manufactured in the last decade then the last three digits (122)means that the tyre was manufactured in 12th week of the year 1992.

Did u get that number from an old tyre?

I got the number from the tyres which is running on Dad's car. Unfortunately he doesn't remember when he bought it, but it was definitely in this decade. Moreover it is still running and serving a useful purpose. Tyres that are more than 8 years are supposed to be dangerous . . . at least that is what I read somewhere.

But even the last decade theory does not explain the last 4 digits of the front tyres: 3740.

There should be another set of numbers printed on the sidewall. This may be only on one side of it though, so it could be that it's on the inner sidewall and you can't see it. It should be a simple 4 digit number which gives the week and year.

sorry: kpzen, I am too conjoos to buy high end mobiles and I don't have a digicam either. But yes, I see the advantage of having one of the two at least.

Thanks Rtech, I will be checking the inner side in a couple of days. I was planning to crawl under the car on saturday or sunday. Need some preparation before I do that. Don't want to do that in my working wear

I checked the inner side of the tyre today. Did not see the rectangular patch on which numeric/alphanumeric values are stamped.
So I guess that the 11 digit numeric code on the outer side has to be decoded to arrive at the manufacturing date.

Time to call in the cryptologists.

your tyre is made in 2005 but very difficult to talk about the week.

Not possible bcos the car was bought in 2000.

Check out for tyres in cars 2001 onwards, may be this coding was adopted in 2001 and onwards...:confused:

Thanks kpzen. So at least, we have it confirmed that from 2006 onward, if not a couple of years earlier, the last 2 digits represent the year of manufacture. Does 07 in the above picture represent the week of manufacture?? Or does it refer to the manufacturing plant code or something . . .

Thanks kpzen. I was not very certain whether 07 was the month or the week of manufacture. I assume that you have ruled out the possibility that 07 represents the month, in which case we can conclude that 07 represents the week of manufacture and close this thread.
