Frankly speaking any 80 profile tyre will have good enough ride quality if not then the tyre has to be pathetic which not the case with Turanza ER60.
ER60 is a good tyre and best available in 12". It also has a strong sidewall to take on any bad roads..

Michelin Energy XM1+ is now available in 145/80 R12 & I believe the price for it is cheaper than Bridgestone!

One of my fren got 12" MICHELIN for 1850..

wow! thats cheaper than Turanza ER60.

So, what's the price of Turanza ER60 ?

IIRC its around 2100 per tyre.

If you are not upgrading your rims, you are better off sticking to stock size tyres. But your Alto is 2001 model; check with a good tyre shop as to whether your rims are in good shape for tubeless tyres. If your rims are rusted/bent, tubeless tyres may not be advisable.

Have a 2003 Alto Lxi which has run 40k kms.

Was driving the other day when i noticed that a metallic "clinking" sound from the Driver-side Rear wheel.
I got out & saw that the wheel was shredded at two points!
i did not feel that the car was veering to one side or anything..!

The "general" condition of the rest of the tyres seem pretty fine.
in any case, please advise me as to what should be my future course of action?

Should i just get a "used" tyre for the 5th tyre? or just 2 front tyres?or change the entire set of 5 tyres?

i plan to sell off this car within a year ( another 15k run) & so dont want to spend too much money; but at the same time,would neither like to be unsafe on the road!

i guess only xm1 is available in size 12, xm1+ (energy) are for higher sizes..

I have XM1+ in my zen. 145/80 R12

are you sure they are xm1+ ? because when I went for getting em for my alto (same size), the dealer told me only xm1 (no +) available in this size... maybe he was fooling around..

Hi everyone;

I have a Alto Lxi 2003 that has done 42k kms on the stock wheels & rims. ( Bridgestone radials- 145 80 R12)

Think its time for a tyre change; i need to buy 4 tyres.

My usage would be abt 1200 kms/mth of Meerut-Delhi Highway.

I am not satisfied with the Braking of the Alto ( Have recently replaced all 4 Braking Calipers) so would like to know if wider/upsizing the tyres would be a good idea?

Pls do remember that this car wud be single driven mostly & occasionally fully loaded with 4 passengers+ am not very keen on modding the car to fit the tyres

( i dont want the tyres scraping the wheel arches/front bumper when i hit a pothole/speedbreaker/ fully-loaded car etc..)

Please advise on what would be the tyres that i should go for?

P.S: any benefit if i replace the old rims with new ones? ( will cost 300rs/rim) coz they might have got bent/deformed over 5yrs?

Also, if i get the new tyres; would i need to get Wheel Balancing& Alignment also? If so, then i can get it done when the Car's service is due in 15days (do it at every 5k kms)

Assuming you are sticking to the same wheels as you mentioned in the post, 155/70/R12 Tubeless can be a good upsize. Oops ! so are you planning for tube ones or tube less?

155/70/R12--Goodyear GPS2 Tubeless is one option
165/60/R12 -->G3's Bridgestone

Not sure about michelins or Yokos in the same range. Others might be able to chip in for that.

Yes, I recoomend that 155/70/R12 Goodyear GPS2 would be a good option. They're available as both tubeless as well as tubetype versions.

The GPS2 tire wears out quickly. I would suggest you go for either Apollo Acelere or MRF.
They give you longer life.
Go for 155width, it will not scrape the sidewalls.
