What about 5-5.5J with 155/165 ?

155 would be a better option for 4.5J, 165 might be an overkill and the tyre sidewall will be more prone to damage.

for 155, i would recommend 5J, 5.5J would protrude a bit too much.

Sad the alloy i like is only available in 5.5J!

Abhi, nothing wrong technically, just a matter of personal taste and aesthetics. See if you can ask the dealer to load a 155 tyre on the 5.5J alloy. That'll give a better idea. I have 5.5J with 165 and even with 25 psi, the alloys protrude a little bit.

Another option is going for 165, but that brings along a few deals of itself like spacers n all. Good luck!

I am not worried as i have seen 155 on 5.5J rims, but lately i have seen Alto's with 5.5J rims and 155 tyre and the tiye feels under sized from wall and there is a space between alloy lip & tyre, which actually doesn't looks good.

The reason for not going for 165 is i don't have PS in y car and neither do i like PS in Alto due to the feedback.

I have 165/60/13 Bridgstone rubber on aura alloys, no issues whatsoever on my alto. she can take upto a max of 5.5j

This is Abhishek from Pune. I am planning to upgrade my Alto Tyres. I might possibly upgrade to Alloys but chances are that i might stick to the Stock Rims due to finance constraints now. But i am going to upgrade to Alloys for sure in a couple of Months. I checked out the Prices at a couple of Dealers and here is the Quote. I am not considering upgrading to 13".

My Tyre options in order of preference are :-

Michelin 155/70 R12 - 2300/-
Michelin 145/80 R12 - 1975/-
Yokohama A539 165/60 R12 - 1975/-
Bridgestone Turanza ER60 145/80 R12 - 1900/-

The thing is that i liked all these Tyres but don't know which is the best one for my Alto. The People's Verdict is towards the Michelin's.

I am more inclined towards the Michelin 155/70 R12 as i feel this is a good compromise between the Stock Size and 155/65 13R . How is this Tyre's Performance on Stock 4j Rims. I read somewhere that for 155/70 R12, the Rims should be minimum 4.5j. Is it worth upgrading to 155/70 R12 or should i stick with 145/80 R12.

I liked the Tread Pattern of the Yoko's as well. But i am not sure how the Alto will handle on stuck broad low profile Tyre.
All the Dealers are pressing for Michelin's or Yokohama.

I have no clue about the Bridgestone Turanza ER60's.

Another concern with the Michelin's that i read on the Web is that the Tyres and the Sidewalls are very Soft. Also, the Tread Pattern of the Michelin's are not deep. The Yoko's had the best Tread. Will this cause any Issues like early Tyre Wear, etc?

I want the Tyres to have good Road Grip, Silent, Good Dry and Wet Weather Performance and not hampering the Mileage.

Considering all these in mind, please advice which would be my best bet.
Have to upgrade urgently in a couple of Days.

Am a Novice in this and don't want to make a wrong choice.

Today i went to the Tyre Shop who has 155/70 R12's in stock and they are manufactured in the 35th Month of the Year 2008. i.e. It is more than an Year Old. The Shopkeeper assured that it is not a problem and i can go for them.
I searched a lot and only this Tyre Shop has 155/70 R12 in stock. It is out of Stock everywhere else.

What do you Guys say? Should i go for them or avoid them? Do they pose a Problem?
He has fresh stock of 145/80 R12 Stock Size Tyres.

Buddy, I'm having Yokohama A539's on Xing and I'm about to complete 5000 kms with them. Very satisfied with them till date.

Regarding the technical aspects of your query, let Nikhil or Ishan take the charge.

For an alto i would say stick to one size bigger at the best, ie if stock is 145 go for 155 anything more will be an overkill. Look at tire bible site and decide on the right size for the rims.

Ideally stick to tires manufactured 6 months or lesser.

Michellins are good but after moving to Yoko i feel they also do the job well and cheap also.

I'd pick up Michelin 155/70/12 out of these.
You can always run these tyres on stock rims for sometime and then upgrade to 4.5 - 5j alloys. Yokohama 165/60/12 would be an overkill on 12 inch 4j stock rims.

What are the current tyres in your Alto? I would suggest that you change the tyres when you fit the alloys and not now.

My Alto is currently running on the Stock JK Ultima 145/80 R12 Tyres. Actually, i am also in a dilemma whether to change only tyres now and alloys a couple months later or do both later. Am still undecided. Lets see.

I totally agree with you. I am also more inclined towards the Michelin 155/70 R12. But what's bothering me is the Manufacture Date of the Tyre. Currently only one Tyre Shop has it in stock and it is about 15 Months old. He assured that i will not face any Problems and also showed me the Consignment Bill that he got these Set of Tyres only about a month ago.
Am in two minds whether i should risk going for these Tyres or no ? This Shopkeeper is also exchanging my current Tyres which have run 11000 Kms for 800 a Piece.

There is another Shop who might get new Stock of Tyres this Weekend, but they are not willing to exchange my Old Tyres.

Why do you want to change your tires at 11K? I'm running my Alto Lxi well past 30K on stock and going good.
