It is that time of the year when Jaipur has it annual vintage and classic car rally.
The 16th rally is to be held on 18th ( Exhibition) and 19th( Drive) of January 2014.

This year the rally is being organised at the same time as The Jaipur Lit fest in hope of better publicity and foot falls.


Watch this space for more information about cars, participants etc in days to come.

The Studebaker " Kashmir ki Kali" car has been under restoration in Jaipur and looks great. The mentioned Rover P3 is not taking part , this is my car and should be completed by next year, Hopefully.

Report on The 16th Vintage & Classic Car Rally, Jaipur

I was super excited about this event from the day I saw its Ad (the one in the opening post of this thread) in the DNA Newspaper. As it was the first vintage car event I was about to attend, I had a lot of expectations from the event and was looking forward to it from the day this thread started. I read a few threads on the forum and learnt that fellow BHPian Kartik (KartikeyaL) would be participating in the event with his 1930 Morris Minor, which further boosted my enthusiasm about the event. So with all this in mind I went to bed early yesterday night, as a result of which I missed reading a PM sent by another fellow BHPian Kunal (Sherlocked) who wanted to meet me at the event. Sorry once again mate, hope to see you at another event soon.

I reached the Venue (Jai Mahal Hotel, Jaipur) at around 11.30 AM and was greeted with a view of around 100 Vintage Beauties lined up waiting for us to appreciate them. So one thing was clear, my expectations wont be shattered by this event.

The event was beautifully organised with all the cars aligned properly while similar cars were parked close to one another. Saw Kartik sir driving his Morris Minor, but as he was with his family so I decided not to interrupt. The only thing I found weird in the event was the lack of labels on cars. IMO, the organizers should have mentioned the Make, Model, Year of Manufacturing and some primary specifications along each car so as to provide a better understanding to the viewers. I am into cars and all, but was unable to identify many models present at the Exhibition. Anyways, I enjoyed a lot and was stunned too see how much the owners love their respective machines. I hope these events flourish to keep such a diverse heritage of cars alive.

Great clicks dZired and indeed the cars were awesome. Hats off to the owners for maintaining them in such an immaculate condition. It was my first time experience seeing so many vintage beauties lined up together and I am already looking forward to next year's event. A day well spent for me.

Superb images, I'm glad to see a great turnout. What a variety.

I'm especially happy to see a familiar car to me, the Charger, I suppose now stationed there. Completely original, and low milage. Nice to see the Hudson from Bombay visiting too.

I was quite surprised to see the forward opening bonnet on the Hudson. Very unusual for its age.

I can see a blue and white Oldsmobile peeking out in one picture - any clear shot of that?

Tweety was today in Jaipur and Kolkata. Tweety, how do you do that? Amazing, but that is not the only amazing part.
The owner of VCCCI was again present in Jaipur with his worlds rarest car called Hudson. Actually the car is not rare, its the combination of car + body style as this is the only known Hudson 8 tourer. And then it was announced that there is a rare car with a rare man (in the owner (of the Hudson and VCCCI)), that would be embarrassing and corny.

For classics the concourse award went to a 1949 Chevy. I have recently seen that car, its clean, its original, but its a Chevy. How can that compare to the more upmarket cars? If given the opportunity, I would like to have that Chevy, so neat, so clean, so smooth, but I would not suffer a delusion (meaning, an idiosyncratic belief or impression maintained despite being contradicted by reality or rational argument, typically as a symptom of mental disorder.

synonyms: misapprehension, mistaken impression, false impression, mistaken belief, misconception, misunderstanding, mistake, error, misinterpretation, misconstruction, misbelief ) and buy it because it is a concourse winning car.

I hope that the after event party is going well for the organizers, judges and participants, plenty of brew to keep warm and celebrate the delusion.

What tweety was not surprised at was that it won the concourse award for the vintage section. Not surprised because the judge is known for this sort of behavior. He is responsible for a bi-annual event which he deludes is the best event in India. We also need reforms in the vintage and classic car movement. Sadly Kolkata toes a similar line.
Both Jaipur and Kolkata have potential winners but they kept away from these events. Any guesses as to why
