The Vintage and Classic Car Club of India will be conducting its annual vintage car and bike rally in Pune the next Sunday, i.e. 15th Feb 2015. I assume the venue is the same, the Radisson hotel at Kharadi off Nagar road. Weather should still be good, hope to see a good turn out.

The route:

From JM road- Take the underbridge (aka- The subway), and proceed further, for like 1-1.5 km. Crossing a bridge over the Mula-Mutha River, you shall approach a signal. Take immediate left- you shall be going under another bridge, which was parallel to the bridge by which you've come previously.

Now- after approx. 500m, you shall approach a signal. A petrol bunk shall be present nearby. In this signal- take right. You shall encounter the Le Meridien. Go on the same route- further ahead. Cross the Ruby Hall Clinic.

Further ahead- There'll be a bridge. Cross that- and take a right. Shortly- you shall be crossing Aga Khan Palace. Move forward. Further ahead. Cross Inorbit mall. This road is Nagar Road- BTW.

At the end of this- You shall approach a signal/bypass. Look/ask for directions for Kharadi. On reaching the Mundhwa-Kharadi road- Proceed further.

And Lo! You shall encounter Radisson Blu Pune!

Disclaimer: I had gone to that part of town quite a bit of time ago. Best Go beyond Le Meridien, German Bakery - perhaps, Aga Khan Palace- Nagar Road- Kharadi Junction- Kharadi-Mundhwa Road. That's the best route I guess.

Attended the event yesterday, as always, it was great to meet old and new friends. The Radisson hotel was a nice venue (if a little out of the way by Poona standards), and they took good care of us. Here is a brief report and pictures.



Standard Avon



1949 Bentley Mark VI, ex Mysore



Pair of 47 Cadillacs - A Fisher and a Fleetwood





The 1936 Chevy was freshly restored. We saw pre-restoration pictures here

1964 Chevrolet Impala





The Datsun 140J was entered for the first time. Till recently was with the first owner, even with original tyres and paint.



No less than 4 Dodge Kingsways - a 54, a 55 (which we drove down from Bombay in) and 2 56s.









Pune being the origin of the Fiat movement, always impresses. This 57 has recently been restored and in long term ownership. A superb job on a superb car.











1946 Ford was a single owner original Pune car when acquired by present owner.



Hillman Minx was a new entry





Jaguar E-Type looked like a million bucks.



Jeep was a new entry



For the first time a Maruti SS80 was entered. It is a milestone entry (and also 30 years old!), and this particular car has been owned almost since new.



Mercedes Ponton 180D was just completed in time and driven straight to Pune from Bombay.





Unfortunately this is the only picture I got of the lovely 190SL, ex Cooch Behar.

1946/47 Oldsmobile

Pontiac of the 1950s in a smart colour scheme.



Always nice to see a new entry, and this was a particularly interesting one - a small Riley saloon





Rolls 20hp is a regular at events all over India.



Rolls 20/25hp making a debut in her new colour scheme, also ex Cooch Behar (wonder if the Mercedes 190 and the Rolls were reunited for the first time in decades!)





Another Rolls 20/25hp



Rolls Phantom III is a regular.



The star of the show, the simply gorgeous Phantom II Continental - she deservedly took the best of show. Did the drive down from Bombay with no problems again.





Another new entry, Rolls Silver Cloud, a long wheel base.







1923 Rover looked superb and was one of few cars that did the whole route (though I must admit not everyone knew what the route was!)





Studebaker Commander convertible looked great.



Chinese London Taxi



Wolseley is again another Bombay regular.



I was thrilled to see this Wolseley Hornet. Originally a Pune car, she was in Hyderabad for years and now back home.

Some great bikes were in attendance as well, including some who rode in from out of town.

























A special mention has to be made of our dear Minoo Fitter. At age 79, Minoo uncle still makes it a point to ride down from Bombay to Pune every year for the rally on his 1960 Vespa that he bought new for just over Rs. 2500 - and he does it alone and with style! A special prize was presented to him and received a well-deserved standing ovation.

A question about the PII continental. Was this car black over cream earlier?

Thanks for the link. What a thorough job the owner did! Not sure of the colour scheme but I laud his decision to keep the car as close to original as possible. Good to see the car has not been "Pebble Beached" (pardon my french)

The first time I saw the new colour scheme I too wasn't very impressed. But over time it really grows on you and I think it now looks a lot more stunning than it ever did in the black and cream combo.
