Re: Drives & Meetups: Classic Car owners of Calcutta The Tollygunge Club Vintage & Classic Car display was held towards the later part of January 2018 and a week after that, it was time for the biggest classic car event in Calcutta, the Statesman Vintage & Classic Car Rally.
Soon after these 2 events, Classic Drivers of Calcutta held its first organised display turned out to be our largest yet with some very welcome new entrants.
The 11th CDC meet, drive & display was held on 11th February, 2018 at Calcutta Cricket & Football Club (CC&FC). CC&FC was generous enough to allocate their members' parking lot to us while we enjoyed the lovely view of their grounds and some breakfast.
The display however, was only the finale. Earlier, we assembled outside one of Calcutta's landmark stores located on Russell Street. The location & steady arrival of classics, coupled with a display of pedal & toy cars outside the store, attracted a crowd of spectators in no time. The friendly traffic police also got in to the action to keep general traffic away from the classics!
Once all the cars had arrived, we were to drive off for CC&FC but our CDC member and owner of the store threw in a bit of fun with a flag-off! The day was captured by our talented friendly photographer and other members with some truly spectacular shots. Iconic Russell Street. The curved building is 'Queens Mansion', formerly known as 'Galstaun Mansion'. Hobby Centre, a favourite among many of us, especially when we were kids Morris Marina was probably the first to arrive Pedal & toy cars being rolled out of the store for display This Buick Super Eight glided in for a CDC meet for the first time MG TC captured spectacularly We were very happy to have this wonderful couple & their MG Midget join us for the first time Standard Little 9 & Austin 10 roll in Imposing Studebaker President makes a stately entry The now complete Pontiac Streamliner resplendent in green & green Neat Standard Herald joined in for the first time I couldn't control the grin on my face; in the same family since new, this 1938 Rolls-Royce Phantom III literally appeared like a phantom and made the day very special.
