Few more which I might have missed earlier

Thanks for sharing such wonderful set of pictures. The JEEPs always look so handsome no matter what the year is. Its like Wolverine, just wont age.

Awesome pictures. Showed them to my dad who used to go along with his dad for business to Goa. He says with much amusement that they actually had to go through an immigration counter. The length of Portuguese rule in Goa was considerably longer than British rule in rest of India - no wonder the culture has seeped in quite a bit as well as into the lingo of nearby Bombay with words like pao (bread) and batata (potato).

Awesome collection, Goa with the Portuguese rule was different from other part of India in culture and the automobiles they had. Few of the snaps had a GOA number plate and some had MG and other flavors, did Goa had multiple starting letters during that time?

Rare automobiles, only few of them on the road! Less traffic and less people on the road; rarest sight nowadays. Very happy to see the pictures.

Beautiful pictures. My grandfather was one of the few people lucky enough to own a car back in Portuguese Goa. Sadly don't have any details or pictures of it.

Absolutely amazing were those days. My grandmother often tells me the stories of the Portuguese rule and the the events leading to the liberation of Goa.
Our family used to own a Mercedes make truck in those days, however no pics of the same were kept :Frustrati

moralfibre has not yet seen this? He had posted some of these in 2012. I think most of them were photographed by Emile Marini.

First time I am seeing a photograph of a BMW R12 1941 model in Goa( in the 3rd post 16th pic which was) used by the German Army in WWII and then maybe after the war given to the Portuguese by the British who captured it, however some say that they were given by Germany to Portugal.
These were used by the Portuguese in Goa and each morning they would ride from Pangim to Aguada Jail via Betim and Verem. A European would be sitting in the sidecar and a a negro would be riding. One morning he couldn't manage the winding road and crashed into one of the houses. The sidecar and bike separated from the impact. As told by Prem Veremkar.
All Portuguese Army vehicles were taken/handed over by/to Indian army after liberation in 1961. These bikes were auctioned in dehu rd in 1967 and made their way to Chor Bazaar. Two of the bikes were smuggled out of India in the 80's. One is in the Australian War Museum in Canberra another made its way to Adelaide.
Two are still in Bombay I think.
Harit has a similar bike but I don't think it was of this lot.

If you look closely, our forefathers had a very clean and rubbish free roads!
Great pics, hope to see more of the likes.

Just saw these. Great compilation by Kartikeyal. Some old, some new.

The picture with two cars parked outside a grand house seems to be the current Raj Bhavan.

It's the Escola Médico-Cirúrgica de Goa (later renamed Goa Medical College). Currently the building houses the Entertainment Society of Goa.

Nice to see the pictures of the Old and New Cine Vasco. The new Cine Vasco building still stands and still has the V. M. Salgaocar office. The cinema has been shut for many years now. I grew up in Vasco-Da-Gama and remember watching many movies in Cine Vasco.

The photo of the Beetle and the VW Van is outside the Repartição Superior dos Correios (Present Panjim Post office).

I will try and scan some photos of the cars my dad owned. There was a Mercedes Benz Ponton (Official car), 2 Fiat 600's and a Fiat 600 D (750 cc engine).

Even though Goa, Daman, Diu, Dadra and nagar Haveli were Portuguese colonies, people drove on the left and many cars were RHD. There were a lot of LHD cars too.

I suspect that was GDA rather than GOA - as seen in this pic. And I think that was after Goa's inclusion into the Indian union. Prior to that, from what pics. I've seen, vehicles had G then IG and later, if am not mistaken, IDG.
