The 2022 Classic Maruti Day was held on 18/12/2022 (Sunday) at Mumbai.
I had the pleasure of participating with a good friend’s Zen Carbon. Since he was abroad, he was kind enough to let me take his recently restored beauty to this year’s event. The restoration was done quite recently at 4S Auto (South Bombay). The gleaming black paintjob and contrasting tan-leather interiors made this beauty an eyeball magnet on the streets.

The event commenced at 7:30 am at an empty parking lot in BKC, where all participants gathered and parked categorically. A wide variety of classic 800’s, Zen’s, Esteem’s, Baleno’s & Gypsy’s had turned up this time. At around 9:00 am the organizers had a quick briefing with all the participants before the rally was flagged off.

The crisp Sunday morning air and sparse traffic made this a rather joyful drive for all. The convoy drove from BKC – Bandra Worli Sea link – Worli Sea face – Marine Drive – back to Haji Ali – Phoenix Mills (Lower Parel). The event concluded with breakfast at McDonalds, Phoenix Mills (sponsored by Fortpoint Maruti Suzuki).

A big shoutout to the event organizers for making this a smooth, trouble-free, and enjoyable experience for all participants.

Great pictures! There are some tasteful mods here too. Nice to see these beauties driving around together.

The pictures on Sea-Link are probably my favourites due to the contrast of the modern looking bridge with so many classic Marutis.

Lovely event and tribute to a lovely and iconic series of cars. The Maruti put most of India on wheels after all.

Man, what a walk down memory lane! A few of the cars even sport retro style number-plates. Thanks for sharing. Like most BHPians born in the 70s & 80s, I have driven all of the models on display.

Some of the Jellybean Zens & Gypsys are really tastefully modified, just like back in the day when they were the choice of hundreds of enthusiasts . The Zen was the ultimate pocket rocket, while the Gypsy was the ultimate offroader / style statement.

This thread makes me feel old.

Is "classics" really the term that would apply to these models? I have grown up seeing them being launched and become mainstream over the years (and I guess now the decline). Don't think I'll ever be able to acknowledge these models as "classics".

What lovely ladies! Took me back decades.
My late father in law owned a 800. Once I took her for a spin and was surprised how peppy and agile it was. A perfect ride for Pune traffic.

But, I am not surprised to find out, to this day, the Gypsy is my favourite from this stable.

Nostalgic, may be a bit of sadness too.

A part of me went along when we parted with Zen due to draconian NGT ruling.

Anyhow, I loved some tasteful modded Marutis shared here. That modded Gypsy is wow.

Thanks GForceEnjoyer, these pictures were jointly taken by me & my buddy Awaiz. The golden hour lighting definitely helped in maximizing the potential of my phone camera.

Thanks GTO! As an 80's kid myself, being in this event while driving a Zen was nothing less than a slap of nostalgia.

I can totally resonate with your thoughts here ninjatalli. As hard as it maybe to accept the changing times, these beauties do rightfully qualify as Modern Classics.

So true Rodo_Faita. Hopefully we have some Omni's, gen1 Alto's & Baleno Altura's in the future events.

Totally agreed RedTerrano. The 800/Alto/Zen are still some of the best urban runabouts.

I was expecting Vinaykumar Chumble's Van. For me, the Classic Maruti Day is not complete without a Maruti Van/ Omni.

Though I don't really dig extreme modifications, the MKraft modifed Gypsy does look cool, almost concept car like.
