| Distinguished - BHPian   | Deccan Heritage Republic day rally, Hyderabad- 26th jan. '09 Greetings! After what seemed like an eternity (atleast to me!) with the challenges faced since 15th august 2008, the Deccan Heritage Automobile Association, Hyderabad is said to be finally back in full swing once again, organising it's 6th Republic Day vintage/classic car/bike show on the 26th of Jan. 2009!  The venue remains the same as last year- Lumbini Park, opp. AP Secretariat, Necklace Rd. We have the honour of having with us Mr. Jayesh Ranjan, IAS, as the Chief Guest for said event this year. The event shall commence at 9.30 AM; however, participants are suggested to make it even a little earlier if possible, as a little time would be set aside to wait until a substantial number have arrived before the show actually commences, beginning with the flag-hoisting by the Chief Guest, and inaugaral speech. This year's event shall consist of a brief display of the cars/bikes. Whether there will be lunch to follow, as last time, is yet to be confirmed. Please pass on this message to all the people you know who are interested, and vintage/classic owning hyderabadis, please make it a point to BE THERE with your rides this time! | Distinguished - BHPian | Thanks hillram! And now, complementing hillram's write-up with pics.... Boy did we have fun today!! 'turned out to be quite a refreshing change after the last downturn we faced on 15th aug. '08! And I hope we're able to have rallies/shows conducted without interruption in future as well! All the more better, as hillram mentioned, was the planning of a similar event not too long from now, on one day out of a week-long celebration of UgAdhi (telugu new year), which will be in March! There appeared to be some new entrants this time, as well as old entrants with 'new' vehicles, namely yours truly, hillram and suren with our Standard Pennant, Toyota Corolla and Vespa 150 respectively (coincidentally, all 3 rides have shades of blue on them! ) And now for the pics...cars first:      And after what seemed like an eternity, a STANHER (apart from yours' truly! hehe) that made a comeback to the Deccan Heritage rallies! And just the right company for my Pennant!     This pristine mk1 Amby with the rare double-pattis on either side seemed (atleast to me!) a first-timer. IMHO, the space between the side-trims painted in a different colour, would've made a more distinctive impact. I was intrigued by it's hubcaps though- never seen anything like these! | Distinguished - BHPian | ......continued from my last post:   This nice '65 Volvo Amazon seemed another first-timer.   One major attraction was this predominantly vintage Opel pick-up conversion. I suspect it to be a factory job, if not a really well-executed one! My mech. seemed interested enough to pose with it! I found it equally interesting to see my Standard Pennant meters put to use in this 'car!'                No, that's not all! Still more to come..... |

| Distinguished - BHPian | continued again, the last of the car pics. The beetle is owned by Anirudh, the Sec. of the DHAA. I guess it's supposed to have a black strip along the middle of both the bumpers?    .....followed by bike pics. ('didn't get to click those as much as I was more engrossed with the cars! 'did click what I felt stood out among the crowd)       Rashid Mody in his trademark 'mirror' sunglasses making a suitable pose with his 50s(?) Ariel, and that's his son Michael (dark sunglasses), not sure if he too is posing though!   Well, that's it from me! If the others who attended have any other pics. to share, do post them!
