Sources for Vintage & Classic Car Parts/Accessories/Restoration Services

The objective of this thread is to compile a comprehensive one stop record of sources of those hard to find parts for that exclusive vintage or classic car of yours.

Restoring or maintaining your car in top nick usually entails access to service personnel and above all quality replacement parts.

As the saying goes, "DO IT ONCE, DO IT RIGHT"

So before you start stripping your car make sure you line up parts for it as more often than not many a grand automobile ended up with the breakers for want of parts.

Please note : As per the TBHP policy retailers may not advertise directly here.

This thread is meant to share info posted by enthusiasts only as a way of helping each other out. Should a retailer choose to advertise specific parts, please refer to the Classifieds at : http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/classifieds/

Buying Experience

As a matter of interest to fellow enthusiasts I have used Kanter Auto Products services on two occasions and find them not only very helpful but dependable and supplier of quality items. They probably are one of the world's largest retailers of Packard spares

I know of friends who have used Bill Hirsch services and had no complaints. A very well known retailer in the business

Are these houses specific to Daimler Double Six? I was under the impression they do much more. I think Crailville had rebuilt an ex-India F&F Delahaye as well.

Oh definitely yes , they do all kinds of marques. Actually the people looking after the Daimler Double Six 30 coupe in India are not familiar with who are the best in the business, hence these leads. It just so happens that both these shops aced it on the Double Sixes at Pebble Beach.

What we can do is to link these shops to marques as and when we cover them

So when someone does a search for Daimler specialists this thread reference should pop up

Agreed, but then giving title to the post as "Daimler Double Six Restoration Services" is too specific. You could instead send 3 emails to prospective clients

But seriously, all Im saying is that since they cater to such a wide spectrum, it should have been pointed out.

Thank you for this great initiative.

Managed to edit the post!

Interestingly when we do a search of particular models TBHP is popping up. I was thrilled to see that when I do a search for a 1939 Packard 120CD or a 1937 Packard 138CD the TBHP link pops up.

While as you say I could have sent an email to these owners thought it would be nice for people hunting for Daimler specialists to hear it first from TBHP !

Good thought and thread, but can be a double edged sword as far as sources of classic car parts are concerned. From my personal experience, I can say that.
Because these old parts are usually sourced from old shops and scrap shops. In many cases these guys dont know the real demand of these items. But once many enquiries come for these obsolete non moving items, they start to raise the price astronomically.

i had a source in south Tamil nadu who gave me 2 landmaster meters in nice working condition .the first one I got for Rs.1500/- in 2005 and the second one in 2008 for Rs.3600/-(given to Steeroid) in early 2008.Now when somebody else whom I gave his contact was telling me he is asking Rs.7000/-for a used Smith landmaster meter set!!!
So I think it is better not to give much publicity to these sources of the classic/vintage parts.

i am saying about INDIAN context

India has an amazing collection of cars. Now it is practically impossible to source spares locally. Packard parts vanished by late seventies in local marts. So its important that owners across India have access to atleast the info on where to shop for parts. Without quality part replacements the restoration is invariably compromised.

The vintage car movement abroad being in a mature state has a whole slew of retailers catering to the need. This thread would serve as a good starting point when you are hunting for spares or require specialised restoration services.

Ajay says something which is extreemly important. It may be advisable to buy the part and pass it on. I have so many guys buying parts for me, all it takes is a phone call from them to ask if am interested and they give the price. To fascilitate this, perhaps a "Parts Wanted" thread could be started as a kind of parts exchange. When someone comes across something he can make a call, agree on price and buy for his dear tbhp friend.
Cheers

Rolls Royce and Bentley Restoration Services

Apparently one of the world's finest restoration shops for Rolls Royces and Bentleys is the firm of:

P & A Wood

Great Easton
Dunmow
Essex
CM6 2HD
Telephone: +44 (0)1371 870 848
Fax: +44 (0)1371 870 810

Rolls-Royce and Bentley - P & A Wood, Essex

Philip Strickland of Benjafields Racing who I met at the Cartier show was of the opinion that their hallmark was uncompromised authenticity in restorations. He recommended I approach them for the Nizam's RR

AX201 and some very significant RR's have been done by the firm

Hi…I'm trying to post my first message on FORUM, but dont know how to ! The message reads " I have a 1958 MG saloon which shares the same BMC B series engine with the original Ambassador car and most running parts, except for the suspension , steering etc. The car has been jacked up and kept in storage for the last ten years . I need to remove it to a workshop within the next week, for an engine rebore , suspension modification and some body work .
Having just returned to Bangalore,I don’t know many people here . There used to be an old mechanic called Joseph working for MF Motors / Ali Garage ? behind Koshys/ old Berys hotel . He died and I understand his son now repairs old cars in a garage near HBR layout ( close to the ring road / Hennur road ) .He also calls himself Joseph . Would anyone know of this person \ recommend whether I should give the MG for him to work on ?
In fairness he cant do much damage, because most parts are common with the old Ambassador, but I also have a 1947 Buick Roadmaster which has been in storage for the past ten years, and needs to be put back on the road. I would therefore like to find a good mechanic in Bangalore for the MG ,whom I could subsequently use for the Buick as well If Joseph is not known to anyone, it would be great to receive some suggestions re a competent mechanic, who would have time to work on these old cars ,as I need to find one in under a week." .Could you tell me how to post the above message onto the General Forum site ? Many thanks
