Wasif bhai can correct me if wrong the earliest VW diesels were probably the Mk1 golfs. There are few scattered here on the forum. One was sold in my building 4 yrs ago for a pittance. No one wanted it.

Yes the first VW Diesel was found in the 1976 Golf. This was the 1.5 litre / 50 BHP unit

Any ideas where it was sold off to.... I saw a Black colour one in Joggers park 3 years ago. Left a note on his windscreen to contact me if he wanted to sell it but never heard of him again.


Yes VW Golfs were the 1st Diesels. It came in Series 1 & 2 Series 1 being the smaller rear lights like the Cabby.

They then had a 1.6 Diesel Engine in it which was also found in the transporters. They also had the 1.6 TD engine which was in the LHD Golfs MK1 and RHD in GOLF MK2

there are quite a few VW JETTA diesels of the eighties in running condition in Kerala.There are least 5 of them in Kottayam itself.One blue 1984car is there for sale in cochin.search the net
