Re: The 45th Statesman Vintage & Classic Car Rally 2011- Delhi

Lovely coverage through pictures. Must thank you Indrojit and your friend Farhan for the nice photo coverage.
Apart from the Delhi "son of the soil" cars, looks like many of them are migratory (now settled in Delhi?) and have registration numbers from other states.
Overall, a very good coverage! Missing S.B. Jatti's red Mustang and some other regulars.

Thanks for sharing. If you refer to the maroon car, it is a Chevrolet Fleetmaster, not a Chrysler. Darker blue car is a Chrylser. Both cars are around 1947.

These wire wheels are fitted with 'knock off' hubs - they screw on and off to secure the wheel to the hub, not requiring conventional wheel bolts. I think the final tightening is done automatically as the car drives off, not sure.

@Karl - What is that white car UPXXX9084 ? Is it me or does it look like an abomination? With the wrong wheels and head lamps?

That is an Austin Sheerline. Wheels do seem to be wrong, headlights may be correct (Lucas P100s?). I remember all Sheerlines sported gawky large lamps.

Here's a photo of a 1940 Austin 125A Sheerline that's owned by The Eastern Command here in Kolkata that was restored a few years ago.

The Calcutta Austin Sheerline is the standard saloon version; the one in the Delhi Statesman rally is a Austin Sheerline Limousine, with a 1-foot-longer wheelbase. That may be why she's looking a bit odd to some, although the wheels indeed appear a little strange, maybe incorrect tyres. The limo is really rare by the way.

The ambiance is quite apt for the regal cars. The white buildings at Connaught Place and the tall buildings in the first few pictures provide an excellent background.

The Rolls-Royce in thread #19 is a 25/30HP with Salmons drophead sedanca coupe (chassis GXM5). Its first owner was movie director Sir Alexander Korda. Another famous owner (just before K.Jaiswal) was Laurence "Laurie" Dalton, who published most of the RR picture books in the Dalton-Watson series.
