New Car under 15 lakh!

Hey lovely people.

I am in the market for a new car under 15 lakhs. Mostly city driving with some highway drives. 600 Kms one way. A car with a punchy ride and one that’s comfortable.

I am not looking for a diesel, and not looking for a Maruti, Tata or Mahindra or a Nissan either. I currently own a Baleno, Venue and 3 series. Want to add something fun to drive in the top spec model within the said budget.

Usually I don’t have to seek help to decide a car but now I feel there’s is nothing in the market. Everything I liked will cost me 18 lakhs like Skoda Kushaq, Skoda Slavia. Creta and Seltos DCT models are also around 18 lakhs. If I have to spend 18 then I’d rather spend 20 more and get some premium car but currently I am not trying to spend so much. Just for commute from grad school to home and a few trips from Delhi to Jammu.
Any help would be appreciated. I put driving dynamics above comfort but would still like the goodies like car play etc. also 'am not looking for a pre-worshipped car.

Thank you

You already have a complete garage. A Polo TSI will fulfill your requirements to the T.

It is within your budget and you can use the remaining for service and mods.

Re: New Car under 15 lakh!

At this amount of money, you would not get much to be honest. The Polo is discontinued, so you need to get whatever stock is available with the dealers. The I20 N Line is a decent car, but once again it's a hatchback, and you already have a Baleno. Also, it's not the best driving car, looks are subjective but personally, for me, the car looks ugly, especially the rear.

If you are okay with losing any one of your cars, why not sell either of the Baleno or Venue and buy a competent replacement for any of these cars for around 20 lakhs. If you can't sell any of these 2 and are in need of a 4th car, then buy the I20.

Re: New Car under 15 lakh!

Since you're saying fun to drive, I am more inclined towards a sedan. How about one of the following:

1. Honda City VX/ZX? Although not particularly exciting to drive, it's still a VTEC, and very comfortable and spacious.
2. If space in the rear isn't a factor, the Verna SX(O) comes under/around 15L OTR depending on where you live.
3. Skoda Slavia 1.0 Style comes around 15L OTR as well, if I am not wrong.

Re: New Car under 15 lakh!

You may not like Marutis in general but the Scross is an exception. It has a decent ride and is well built. The engine and gearbox combo is best suited for relaxed driving. If you don't want to stretch beyond 15L then you can consider the Kushaq ambition 1.0 TSi AT. VFM product. Without discounts, it should cost slightly above 15L.

Re: New Car under 15 lakh!

If you are able to get hold of a Polo GT, get it eyes closed. You already have a Baleno and Venue, can extend your budget by 2.5L and get Taigun GT 1.5 manual. That 1.5 is damn exciting along with the better driving dynamics than say a Kushaq plus you don't have to worry about any issues related to DSG.

Re: New Car under 15 lakh!

Have a look at all the sedans - City, Slavia, Virtus & Verna. City hybrid is worth looking at(waiting for) given city usage although it might touch 20lacs (coming up on April 14). I know you aren't particularly fond of used cars but pre-worshipped Civic/Altis are worth looking at IMO. Suggesting sedans since you aren't old and can enjoy sitting low & their highway manners.

Re: New Car under 15 lakh!

Ford ecosport S ecoboost or TDCI would have fit your requirements to a T ! Alas :(

In terms of current cars on sale, how about the xuv700 MX petrol ? You get a car that's seriously rich in hardware as well as something with a different body style , which you currently don't have. Not sure of the waiting times for the base variant, but you could check it out.

Re: New Car under 15 lakh!

XUV300 Diesel Top model with that 300 Nm of Torque. You would love every bit of it. Even the Petrol with 200 Nm is good as well if you don't want to go for the diesel.

Re: New Car under 15 lakh!

After weighing in all the options and keeping my budget constraints in mind I am thinking of going with Hyundai i20 N line.
Though I am also being pushed for a Kia Sonet but I am in no mood to buy another Venue. I have never been this confused in life while choosing a car. Everything I liked costs upwards of 18 lakhs on road. Really frustrating. I still have till January of next year to decide on what I want to buy but one thing that is going to be a constant is my budget, everything else can vary.

Re: New Car under 15 lakh!

My suggestion would be to go for the Honda City VX MT which will be perfect in your budget. The most VFM car in this price range with great driving dynamics and ample comfort both at the front and rear.
Another option can be the Mahindra XUV300 W8 Optional Diesel. Its a fun to drive and enthusiast's machine (car is an understatement for this one ) Perfect balance of features, safety and overall driving dynamics. Only let down is the small boot but you get the best specifications in a budget car under 15 lakhs with all the bells and whistles. Its a choice between heart and mind. In your place I would go for heart - Mahindra XUV300 but mind says Honda City!!
